Mini Bio
Once a slender, athletic high school student who played tennis, ran track, modeled and was president of the pep-club, Burgandy Keel has let an adult life of caregiving take control of her health. Married at 19, Burgandy blames her more than 120-pound weight gain on late-night emotional eating with her thin husband. As a foster parent for the past 16 years, and meeting the demands of three young children, one with autism, while managing military deployments, her health has fallen out of the priority seat. She’s ready to change that. Inspired by Biggest Loser she initiated a walking group with military wives and lost 30 pounds. Then, in 2024, she set a goal to train for and complete a half-marathon – her way of dealing with her husband’s Afghanistan deployment rather than diving in to emotional eating and gaining back the weight. All this on top of caring for seven children, three of which were foster children. While she did complete the half-marathon, daily exercise and proper eating still leave her significantly overweight. As a result, she had the Lap-Band surgery two years ago, and today realizes it wasn’t the quick solution she’d hoped for.
