Show will re-air on Tuesday, December 28, 2024.
Tune in this Tuesday, September 21 to The Dr. Oz Show and learn about the hidden world of obesogens.
On the show, Dr. Oz investigates a new concept called obesogens, which are chemicals that are found in many of the foods we eat and are strongly linked to obesity.
Obesogen is a term that was originally coined by an University of California-Irvine professor who described how these chemical compounds, which are foreign to the body, can disrupt the body’s homeostasis and metabolism of fat thereby making the accumulation of fat easier.
The idea of obesogens is explored in The New American Diet by Stephen Perrine and Heather Hurlock. But obesogens are not just limited to food. Researchers who are investigating this concept have also found these culprits hidden in our household products and other items we use every day.
