In preparation for her movie role in “Cadillac Records,” Beyonce Knowles had to gain some weight as she portrays the sultry but conflicted blues singer, Etta James.
Following on the heels of such actresses as Renee Zellwegger and Hilary Swank who also packed on the pounds for their craft, Knowles didn’t say much about which foods she indulged in, but she did say that it was more fun to gain than having to lose weight.
“It was way easier — and tastier — than having to lose so much weight for Dreamgirls,” said the actress.
For her critically-acclaimed role as Dina in Dreamgirls, Beyonce lost 20 pounds doing the Master Cleanse, a liquid fast in which you consume a concoction of water, lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper all day long. It took the weight off, but it took its toll on the young entertainer, emotionally. She was reportedly cranky all the time on the diet, especially as she watched fellow actors and set-members scarf down Krispy Kreme donuts by the dozen.
Since her latest film has wrapped up and she has begun shooting her next film, Beyonce is frustrated with trying to get this extra weight off. In order to slim down she has placed some serious restrictions on her diet by abstaining from chips, candy, dessert, fried foods or junk food.
From her days in Destiny’s Child to her thriving career as a solo artist, Beyonce has long been known for her voice, beauty and talent. And she has been very vocal about not fitting into the stick-thin stereotype that so many others Hollywood stars forcefully adopt.
Instead, her curvaceous, “bootylicious” figure and her undeniable fashion sense has provided girls and women of all ages and race an alternative role model to the 100-pound image that so many other starlets possess.
