While the world loves news of celebrity happenings and drama, they especially love stories of post-baby weight loss. And one star our culture has been recently fixated on is singer and fashion mogul Jessica Simpson.
Simpson and her fiancé Eric Johnson just welcomed their 9 pound, 13 ounce baby girl, Maxwell Drew Johnson, into the world on May 1. And what everyone’s wondering now is how long it will take the star to slim down and exactly how she’ll do it.
Simpson made big news last year when she signed a $3 million contract with Weight Watchers to shed her post-baby pounds. This was mostly shocking because the star hadn’t even had her baby yet, which just goes to show how much of a market there is for celebrity weight loss and gains, especially surrounding pregnancy.
Upon signing with Weight Watchers, Simpson was excited about the partnership knowing it would be major motivation to get back into shape as a new mom. But the singer admitted she didn’t count points during her pregnancy because she wanted to enjoy the experience. Although Simpson reportedly ate a mostly healthy diet, she also allowed a few indulgences here and there.
In a recent interview with People Magazine, Simpson said that anyone who’s gone through a pregnancy starts thinking about what they need to do about their body after the birth. And for her, she wants to go about it the smart way. “For me, I really want to do something that is a lifestyle, because in the past, I’ve been known to yo-yo diet,” she said.
Just four weeks after giving birth, Simpson reportedly hasn’t been cleared by her doctor for any intense exercise just yet. But she does have a plan in place and is excited to get started.
As for a goal weight, Simpson says she hasn’t stepped on a scale yet and doesn’t really have a specific number in mind for her weight. “I just want to feel normal and fixate on inches,” she said. “I really want to set small goals, so I’m constantly reaching goals and not looking at something so far ahead.”
It was rumored at one point that Simpson had gained around 65 pounds during her pregnancy. Being that a safe weight loss is one to two pounds per week, Weight Watchers will technically be paying the star between $40,000 and $92,000 per week to shed the weight, depending on how quickly things progress. That’s roughly $46,000 per pound. We’re no math experts, but that’s one pretty penny just for shedding a little weight.
Weight Watchers offers diet plans for breastfeeding moms, so we hope Simpson heeds their advice and approaches her weight loss and exercise plan wisely. Although she does have more motivation to slim down quickly as she announced plans to wed Johnson soon after the arrival of their daughter, we hope she takes her time.
