February 22 is National Margarita Day

February 22 is National Margarita Day!

The original Margarita was invented in 1948 by a wealthy resident of Acapulco, Margarita Sames. During a party at her home, Margarita began experimenting with ‘the drink’. Today, the Margarita is the #1 most popular cocktail in the United States, representing 18% of all mixed drinks ordered in the U.S. On average, Americans consume 185,000 of the fruity drinks in one hour, with the highest rates of consumption being reported in Atlanta, Dallas, Miami and Nashville. On the rocks, blended or frozen, salted or unsalted, this tequila beverage is a yummy treat any day of the week.

Researchers used nearly 200 college students in an experiment to see how their food purchases would change, if at all, when there is a substantial tax on high-calorie foods.

“The most important finding of our study is that a tax of 25 percent or more on (high-calorie) foods makes nearly everyone buy fewer calories,” says lead researcher Janneke Giesen of Maastricht University in the Netherlands.

The only exception was people who were already calorie-conscious in the first place – their decisions were not swayed either way with the food tax.

Dr. Oz hosts guests from both sides of the argument: those who say it worked for them and people who experienced serious side effects.

HGC is a pregnancy hormone that’s FDA-approved as part of fertility treatments. To follow the hCG “cure,” dieters must eat only 500 calories per day, a restriction severe enough to cause major weight loss and side effects itself.
