Condiments are one of the easiest ways to amp up the flavor in your foods. While the addition of some condiments provides flavor and little else, some can actually ramp up the health factor of your meal, while some of your favorites may be heaping hundreds of calories and unnecessary sugar, fat, and salt onto your already healthy meals, sabotaging your efforts to eat lighter and cleaner.

Veggies, herbs and spices, what could go wrong? If you’re whipping up your own, not much, but grabbing a jar of name brand salsa off the shelf can mean you’re pouring on preservatives, chemicals, loads of sodium, and even added sugar if you’re a fruit salsa fan. Big companies will pump their salsa full of preservatives to keep it shelf stable. Think about it — how else can “fresh” veggies sit on a shelf for weeks and still be edible?
If you go fresh and all natural, salsa can be an amazingly healthy and delicious option for just about anything. Why did you start your food blog? I had been working as an internet consultant for a few years and when the economy took a hit in ’08-’09 I found myself clientless. Since I’ve always enjoyed cooking, and I was doing it pretty much everyday, I thought I’d start up a food blog. It was a way to help fill my days and gain some new internet skills at the same time.

Sriracha lovers are a special breed. The hot pepper sauce is the equivalent of Asian ketchup – die-hard fans, like my friend Kenton, will put it on almost anything. And the more the better. So when Lay’s announced the finalists for its Do Us a Flavor contest this spring, and Sriracha was one of the three flavors Americans wanted most, I knew many of my friends wouldn’t be able to resist.
But then, Sriracha didn’t win. The Garlic Cheesy Bread did. So what were my friends like Kenton to do when they crave that crunchy, spicy, impossible-to-pronounce condiment? Well, turn to us, of course!

Ever since I moved to the west coast, I have been a die-hard sushi eater. I am a huge fan of spicy tuna, spicy shrimp, and spicy salmon rolls. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it!!
Today, I am going to teach you how to make your favorite healthy sushi roll at home.
First, you need chopped raw tuna steak, shrimp, or salmon and mix them with a spicy low calorie sauce (I use a combination of two tablespoons of sriracha and a teaspoon of wasabi) in a large dish. (more…)
