We Love Smartfood Popcorn Clusters

smartfood popcorn clustersThis week, we love Smartfood Popcorn Clusters – a crunchy and nutritious treat from snack connoisseurs Frito-Lay.

We first spotted these charming boxes while flipping through a magazine and within days, DietsInReview Food Finders were pleased as punch to see all three flavors – Cranberry Almond, Honey Multigrain and Chocolate Cookie Caramel Pecan lined up neatly on the bottom shelf of the snack aisle of a local grocery store. We Love Edy’s Slow-Churned Tart Frozen Yogurt Blends

edys tart honeyThis week, we are goo-goo, ga-ga in love with Edy’s Slow Churned Tart Frozen Yogurt. The key word here is “tart” because right now, not all stores are carrying these new flavors, Tart Mango and Tart Honey, so you don’t want to confuse them with Edy’s regular line of Frozen Yogurt Blends. Trust us ice cream-lovers, if you don’t find these new tart blends in the freezer section of your grocery stores, talk to the manager and beg and plead for him or her to get them in.

Coming in at just 100 calories per half cup serving, and 3 grams of fat, both flavors Tart Honey and Tart Mango contain live active yogurt cultures and 10 percent of your calcium needs. (more…)

We love Kellogg’s Live Bright Brain Health Bars

kelloggs live bright barsThis week, we love Kellogg’s new Live Bright Brain Health Bars. For those who want to consume the right amount of essential fatty acids like DHA-3 (Docosahexaenoic acid) but don’t like the taste of fish, a natural source of these healthy fats, then look no further than Kellogg’s Live Bright Brain Bars.

DHA plus eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), another essential fatty acid, are believed to have beneficial effects in reducing cardiovascular disease and other chronic conditions. DHA, in particular, is found in the brain where it is  needed for mental clarity and development and visual acuity and is different from a-linolenic acid (ALA) which is found in flax seed, walnuts and canola oil. Low levels of DHA have been found in children with ADHD and DHA was found to reduce inflammatory markers in men who are at risk for heart disease. (more…)

We Love Luna Cookies

This week, we love LUNA Cookies. What is not to love about a moist, chewy, whole-grain snack that packs all of the yumminess of a soft-baked cookie with nutritious ingredients like flax seeds, omega-3 fatty acids, calcium, folic acid and Vitamin B12 in each sweet bite?

LUNA Cookies come in three flavors. (via LUNA Bar)

The makers of LUNA Bar have created this new line of cookies and good-for-you treats in addition to their 14 flavors of LUNA Bars (Caramel Nut Brownie is a favorite flavor of ours). The cookies currently come in three flavors: Chocolate Mint, Berry Pomegranate and Peanut Butter Chocolate. Each dense and generously-sized cookie contains 130-150 calories, 2.5-6 grams of fat, 4 grams of fiber and 3 grams of protein. Pour a small glass of cold skim or soy milk and savor a bit of cookie heaven. (more…)

We Love Figamajigs

This week, we LOVE Figamajigs – and not just for its fun and funky name. Figamajigs are dark chocolate-covered fig bars that are a delicious and natural way to make you feel like you’re eating a decadent chocolate candy bar when you’re actually eating something that is 100 percent healthy and 100 percent delish!!

Figamajigs have a few different products to choose from: the original fig bar, almond fig bar and raspberry fig bar. Each bar contains 130 or 150 calories. There are also bite-sized Figamajig candies that are equally yummy and perfect for when you want a bag of M&Ms but don’t want the repercussions that come after eating one. (more…)

We Love Soy Crisps

genisoy-soy-crispsThis week, we love crunchy, protein-packed soy crisps. Potato chips, tortilla chips and cheese curls may satisfy your need for a crunchy snack, but they also pack a pretty hefty fat punch. Soy crisps contain just about 100 calories per serving (approximately 17 round crisps) and a mere 1.5-2 grams of fat. Plus, you get 8 grams of heart-healthy and bone-boosting soy protein with each serving handful. (more…)

We Love Revolution Foods and Fruitabu

revolution-foods-mashupsToday’s guest blog comes from an in-the-know mom. Naomi Shapiro is the stay-at-home mom who “didn’t expect to be” over at Superdumb Supervillain. She’s got two kiddos to chase after and fill both hers and their diets with foods they’ll eat, enjoy and will be good for them. Today she offers a great product recommendation.

This week, we love putting something in our kiddo’s lunchbox that we can feel good about. And that they’ll actually want to eat… Like fruit. Only, without the annoying tendency to bruise when tossed around in a backpack. Or the need to wash, peel or even slice it.

Mashups by Revolution Foods are organic 100% fruit purees that come in three kid-friendly flavors (grape, berry, tropical fruit) and contain no preservatives or added sugar. Perhaps more importantly- and certainly more fun!- they come in a squeezable pouch that requires no utensils. Hands-free Mashups are resealable, which is convenient for feeding babies on the go. The 90g pouches each contain 60 calories or less, making them a decent snack option for calorie counting parents, too. (more…)

We Love Freeze Dried Fruit

This week, we’re head-over-heels-giddy about freeze-dried fruit. Who doesn’t love fruit, right? And dried fruit is just about as sweetly-good as candy, but as we all know, dried fruit can pack some serious calories. Just one cup of raisins boasts almost 500 calories! Yikes!

But freeze-dried fruit has all of the sweetness  and nutrients of fresh and dried fruit at just a fraction of the calories. Trader Joe’s has a pretty plentiful supply of freeze-dried goodies like bananas, strawberries, and pineapple, and the company Just Tomatoes is wildly popular, too. (more…)

We Love Vitamin Water 10

vitamin-water-10This week, we love Vitamin Water 10. The enhanced water giant Glaceau trimmed about 100 calories from each bottle with its new line of Vitamin Water 10. The drinks still contain the same slug of vitamins that are in the full-calorie original versions and they are naturally sweetened.

Just keep in mind that there are 2.5 servings in each bottle so you’re actually consuming 25 calories in each 20 ounce bottle, not 10.

Currently, there are four flavors: Energy (Tropical Citrus), XXX (Acai-blueberry-pomegranate), Essential (orange-orange), and Multi-V (lemonade). (more…)

We Love Easter Eggs

eggsThis week we love eggs. In celebration of Easter, we’re applauding the incredible-edible egg, which is as close as you can come to a perfect food despite suffering ridicule in years past for its potentially cholesterol-raising effects.

Whether you love to scramble them, whip them up into a quiche, sunny side them up or hard-boil them, the egg’s versatility and its stellar nutrition profile makes it a no-brainer why these cute, compact wonders are at the top of any nutrition expert’s healthy-eating list.

We Love Walking Outside

walkingThis week, what we love doesn’t require that you go to the grocery store in search of a few healthy snacks, but instead, it’s simply an action that we do every day and quite honestly, should do more: walking.

With the long-awaited arrival of Spring, nothing feels better than taking a simple 20-minute walk on your lunch break or a leisurely stroll after dinner. Walking doesn’t cost you a dime, but its health benefits are likely to do more than just keep money in your wallet. (more…)
