According to a study by Robert Carels, PhD, a psychology professor at Bowling Green State University, people who recorded their food and exercise during a six month period lost 10 pounds more than those who didn't. It's on this premise that The Calorie Balance Diet is based. It's not revolutionary by any means, but a little common sense can go a long way. If you are keeping track of your calorie intake, you can feel more comfortable having the occasional treat (in smaller portions) when you can see how many calories it adds up to at the end of the day.
With The Calorie Balance Diet you get a free software download which tracks your calories and exercise. The powerful dieting software is continually being updated, and currently includes many features that help you succeed:
Calorie Counter: You have more than 30,000 foods at your fingertips.
Fitness Tracker: Plan your workouts. Know how many calories you are burning, and progress from week to week like a pro.
Meal Planner: Dieting is so much easier to do if you plan your meals. The meal planner allows you to create and edit meals.
Recipe Builder: Enter your favorite recipes and get estimates on the calories and nutrition of your food.
Shopping Lists: Enter your foods for the week and then easily print out a shopping list for yourself.
Journals and Reports: Keep track of your progress.
Tracking your diet and fitness makes succeeding much more attainable
CON
Unlike bigger companies, you don't get support from nutritionists or fitness experts
The Calorie Balance Diet software is not available for Mac users
There is no explanation as to who is behind this diet. It make you believe that it's been developed by a techie and not a healthcare professional.
DIET and NUTRITION
There's a recipe exchange board, and a food component to The Calorie Balance software. One of the more interesting elements to their food advice is that you can sort recipes by ethnicity. Anything from Afghani to Thai is available.
You'll be able to access nutritional data for more than 30,000 foods- making it possible to track calories, fat, carbs and more to ensure you're getting more of what you do need and less of what you don't.
EXERCISE
There are three choices for exercise:
Gym Plan: If you have a gym membership, or plan on joining a gym, The Calorie Balance Diet gives you a brief outline of choosing a gym, working out and getting the best results.
Increased Activity: You get tips on how to increase activity levels without going to the gym.
Parent's Plan: The program has a list of possible activities as well as a general plan with its kids category.
CONCLUSION
There are positives and negatives to The Calorie Balance Diet. It does provide free software that helps you document progress, which will give you a much better chance of success. However, some of the advice sounds as though it were written by a novice. That is, it sounds like someone who has a limited nutritional or fitness background. But really that has little effect on its value, since it's all about the free journaling software. It's certainly worth your time to explore and see if it helps you get over the hump.

I am in the trial period, and the helps don't work. I have tried to e-mail them and don't get a response. My internet is on and working, but not with the program. It tells you what mineral you need, but not the food that you should eat to get it. Can someone tell me what I or the program is doing wrong?

Planning your workouts is key for me just like menu planning. I love the fitness tracker I just have to remember to go to the site all the time to track or I lose the benefit of the service

With calorie counting and some advice on exercise this diet helped me get on track. Anyone find the site hard to navigate though, they could have made that easier.
