From songwriter to author, Sheryl Crow is following in many celebrity footsteps by writing her own cookbook.
The singer began her healthy-eating regime in 2006 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. In discussing her disease, Crow was very open about how she changed her eating habits to reflect her healing journey by choosing foods that were nutrient dense and full of immune-supporting properties. She continues to maintain this way of eating today, even though she has been cancer-free for a number of years.
In her cookbook, If It Makes You Healthy, Crow features a collection of simple and more complex dishes.
“I learned a lot about nutrition because I wanted to be proactive in my cancer treatment and part of that meant for me, aside from getting the Western treatment which was a lumpectomy and radiation, was to know more about what I put into my body,” she explains. “All the vitamins and supplements that we take, the best way to get those vitamins and minerals are through food, through the actual food itself, as opposed to supplements. Supplements are great and everything but everything that we need is in the most colorful vegetables we eat.”
