The mystery around Scientology seems to get more intriguing - the Purification Rundown is a highly controversial diet that has been used by Scientologists around the globe. Tom Cruise's wife Katie Holmes has also experimented with the program, which combines a very organized regime of exercise, dietary supplements and protracted periods in a sauna. The purpose of the Purification Rundown depends upon your own intention. It can be done for medical conditions such as clearing up a chronic health problem, relieve a drug addiction, or it can be done to deepen your spirituality. Scientologists also claim that it can boost IQ, lower cholesterol and relieve chronic pain.
But the cleansing program has been met with vehement criticism, oftentimes from Scientologists themselves who claim that the intense cleanse caused dehydration, electrolyte imbalances and heat exhaustion. In fact, there have been various health complaints and conditions associated with the Rundown. At the time of this review's posting, three people's death have been associated with it.
Just after 9/11, Tom Cruise offered the Purification Rundown in New York City to over 800 rescue workers in order to improve their health after being exposed to the toxins of the catastrophe. Some relief workers reported positive results and other government officials supported the program.
Here's how it works: During the program, the individual spends up to five hours a day in a sauna where he or she is given mega doses of B3 (niacin), other vitamins and a vegetable oil cocktail. Water, salt and potassium are also consumed in order to prevent dehydration. Scientologists believe that toxins, radioactive substances and other harmful substances reside in the body's fat. They are released through through sweat and perspiration via a combination of specific oil ingestion, and exercise. Therefore, the purpose of the heat and supplement administration is to expel toxins from the body and replace fatty tissues with vegetable oil.
Purification Rundown typically takes a few weeks to complete.
Do You Know the Best Diets of 2024?
- Promotes exercise
- Carefully designed and is typically monitored by senior Scientologists
- Medical permission is required to commence the program
- Has been met with positive results by some who have experienced it
- Associated with causing a number of serious health conditions
- Criticized by the medical and health profession
- Has no scientific or medical evidence to support its healing claims
- Administration of extreme doses of niacin may be very dangerous
- Notion that sweating out fatty toxins is rejected by the medical profession
During the Purification Rundown, you consume a regular diet in addition to large supplement dosages of niacin and other vitamins. You also drink a special beverage called "CalMag," which consists of calcium, magnesium water and cider vinegar. Plenty of water is also consumed in order to offset the dehydrating effects of the sauna's heat.
If you follow a regular exercise routine, you are encouraged to maintain it as long as you don't over exert yourself. Light aerobic activity like walking and stretching can be done.
Purification Rundown is an intense ,several weeks-long cleanse that is endorsed by the Church of Scientology. Even though it is used by Scientology believers for a variety of reasons, it is considered to be unsafe by health and medical experts. In fact, consequent health conditions have been associated with this cleansing program.
You are strongly advised to speak with your medical practitioner before experimenting with the Purification Rundown.

I'm doing the purif right now and honestly I don't see the point and how niacin is eliminating the toxins out of my body. He never explains the chemistry behind this in the book. The book doesn't state facts all he says is "apparently", "it seems".. and that is what he bases his research on. I found these words in many occasions in the book. I've only been doing it for five days and i already want to quit. I really don't see how Scientologist don't question anything this man has written. And if you wonder why im doing it is because my bf is a scientologist and i wanted to see it for myself and make up my own conclusion on whether Scientology is for me or not.

This is incorrect data. read the book clear body clear Mind. No one can start the program without seeking a medical examiners approval first. Program is very succesful and does rid the body of radiation and harmful substances that go into the body. One is closely cared for while on the program and anything going on while on the program is addressed and handled. We live in a chemical riden society and we do need to care for the body. At some point in our lives we have to stop the process of chemical intake. Some if it we can't help. But we can help ourselves by ridding the body of these things. I hope you will read the book based on the exactness of the intention and purpose of the program seek a medical examiner and do the purif with a doctors consent.

-This is not a weight-loss plan. If you start losing weight at a rate, then it will be looked at as maybe a problem per the instructions on the process.. I've done this thing twice. I'm a former Scientologist, and had been very confused about having really bad liver tests, until I read reports about the possible tax on the liver this program can cause. I was on many, many more days than a lot of others, both times. It was done "standardly", so I needed to 'stay on'. Just stay away. Seriously. I

ok so i am in the purification process right now, and there is no danger when it comes to heat exhaust or dehydration, because when u feel like you may be getting over heated, you take a break and take a shower, and you are constantly drinking water to keep hydrated, i end up drinkin a gallon in the 5 hours im there

Louanne: death certificates coroner reports don't lie. Louanne is a professional Scientology Internet Handler ..its her job to keep the masses misinformed, especially trapped inside Scientology in order to KSW (Keep Scientology Working)
posted Aug 21st, 2010 9:26 pmthe deaths related to the Purification Rundown are numerous and are part of the public record. documents that all Scientologists are to avoid at all costs.
the legitimate Medical Profession evidence says its deadly. the science is quackery. the doses of niacin that they recommend can cause serious liver damage. and has happened to hundreds who have gone through this program.
there is no science.
and any proof Scientology provides is bogus, like everything they do.
Hubbard in his early years falsely claimed he had a PhD and was a Nuclear Physicist
the only thing he truly was was a con man and a second rate Science fiction writer who was obsessed with the idea mans problems were due to having space parasites attached to their souls.

The purification rundown was never designed to be a diet so I am not sure why it is on a diet review. I did this program along with 7 others at the same time. We all experienced different changes throughout the program. The program needs to be monitored carefully as there is an important balance in the vitamins and minerals and the response from each person's body.
posted Jul 20th, 2010 12:55 pmIf one is questioning the possibility that your body can successfully eliminate toxins that are in fact stored in your fatty tissue, talk to a massage therapist. Any natural health practitioner understands toxins and the importance of removing them from your body.
High doses of anything can be fatal if not administered correctly. This program is not one that should be done on one's own.
I enjoyed the benefits I acheieved upon completion of the program.

Ok maybe i was bit harsh, so why dont someone explain to us how the interaction between niacin on a cellular level de-activates or removes toxins? the statement that the body does it on its own is not really an explanation.

-where is the scientific theory behind this? i mean does the scientology believe that the rest of the population and doctors / scientists are just a bunch of idiots? L R Hubbard used much of his theories in dianetics from writings of S. Froyed, yet he openly mocks psychologists and psychiatrists. where is a sigle paper that he has published in a scientific or medical journal to prove his claims? oh let me remember he does not need the scientists they just a bunch of morons.... he is more clever than they ever are. well with this arrogant attitude from scientology no wonder they considered a pseudoscience

Thank you for the question, Jay. Our position isn't to expressly say whether a diet/program is "bad" or "good", but to give an unbiased review of the facts and let consumers make their own choice. The "Start This Diet Now" button is there for convenience for those who want to explore the product further. Feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] for any further questions or concerns.

So if DietsInReview so strongly recommends that readers *not* experiment with the Purification Rundown, why is there a big "Click Here to Start This Diet Now!" button on the top of the page?

I have done the purification rundown and have even trained in delivering it. It's not really a diet, and the purpose is to clear the body of toxins, not to lose weight. But, if you've ever wanted to take care of the dullness that years of accumulating preservatives, pesticides and other poisons can cause, this is for you. The key to its success is the common-sense approach: give the body what it needs to cast off toxins and it will. And you can see and feel it happening! In fact, the progress is so striking that the completion is routinely signaled by the person's declaration that he can feel his body is now free from toxins.

-You might have mixed up something here. I have seen this detox program work, at the NY Detox Center (Tom Cruise did a fundraiser there around 2007 to keep the program free), and it gets predictable and regular results, like relieving or even curing serious health conditions. It might be controversial but so are nutritional supplements and diet coke.

-"Can be fatal". That's a severe allegation not backed up by real life. Was your researcher too preoccupied to check out the "facts". Get some here:
posted Mar 4th, 2009 6:49 pmThe Purification Rundown is a carefully designed combination of exercise, vitamins, nutrition and sauna use which dislodges drug residues and other toxins from the fatty tissues so that these substances can then be eliminated from the body. While the Purification Rundown rids one of the biochemical residues that reactivate past drug experience, it is but the first step to a full resolution to the spiritual devastation caused by drug, medicine and alcohol abuse.
Neither toxic pollution nor drug abuse were of major concern in 1950 when L. Ron Hubbard released his self-help bestseller Dianetics. By the 1960s, however, the frightful specter of both had arrived and Mr. Hubbard??s research showed that a person who had been heavily on drugs was not able to make spiritual gains from auditing. This condition had not been encountered earlier in his researches, as drugs had not yet encroached so deeply into society. But it became more and more prevalent and required a solution, as drugs now represented an increasingly serious block to auditing progress.
The way a being perceives much of existence is via the sensory channels of the body. The body is a communications center for the being, with the brain acting as a switchboard for translating thought into action. The biochemical actions of drugs alter the normal operations of this pattern, often with harmful or even disastrous consequences.
L. Ron Hubbard researched this barrier to spiritual freedom long before it was recognized by others as the huge social concern it is today. His work yielded a truly effective handling for the adverse biochemical effects of drugs and other toxins.
He made the discovery that residues from drugs and other toxins lodge in the fatty tissues of the body and stay there, even years after they have been ingested, and that these residues can continue to affect the individual adversely long after the effect of the drug has apparently worn off. Such deposits have been known to cause lessened perception, tiredness, confused thinking and a host of other symptoms ?? all of which are counter to what is being achieved through auditing. Documented cases show that an individual may re-experience the effects of LSD years after having taken the drug.
Realizing that this biochemical factor had to be handled before any lasting spiritual gain could be made through auditing, L. Ron Hubbard devised what independent researchers acknowledge as the safest, most effective ?? and only ?? detoxification program of its kind: the Purification Rundown.
In Scientology, a rundown designates a series of related actions which culminate in a specific end result. Developed solely to handle the biochemical barrier to spiritual gain, the Purification Rundown is a carefully designed combination of exercise, vitamins, nutrition and sauna use which dislodges drug residues and other toxins from the fatty tissues so that these substances can then be eliminated from the body. A person undergoing this program is closely monitored by specially trained personnel in liaison with medical doctors to ensure that each aspect of the program is administered correctly and the desired benefits are attained.
The program can take several weeks. As well as spending time in saunas, participants are required to do light exercise including calisthenics, treadmills, and other similar activities.
The program is not a weight loss program, and a medical doctor's permission is required in advance to start the program. Daily reports monitor the person's condition and progress through the program. The program consists of a course of doses of vitamins (niacin in particular), long periods in a sauna, exercise, and consumption of a blend of vegetable oils. A normal, healthy menu is maintained throughout the procedure. Doses of vitamins are monitored, and are adjusted during the course of the rundown.
The theory is that toxins, drugs, and radioactive particles are stored in body fat, which are released through the exchange of fats (thus the oil consumption) and exercise, and then finally released via perspiration and other normal mechanisms such as body waste. The Purification Rundown requires its participants to ingest the following at regular intervals:
- Niacin
- Oils, to replace the oils that are sweated out in the sauna.
- "CalMag" a drink consisting of calcium, magnesium water and cider vinegar.
- Multi-vitamins, Vitamins A, B1, Bcomplex, C, D, E, and multi-minerals
Plenty of water, salt and potassium, used to replace the fluids and minerals lost in the sauna
Once the person has been freed from the harmful effects of these drug residues and other toxins, he is in a far better position to improve as a spiritual being, to which ten thousands of people have attested.
