BACKGROUND Start the Diet Now Advertisement

One of the most comprehensive studies on nutrition ever done, The China Study provides us with some eye-opening information on how to lose weight and stay healthy and fit for life.

The China Study, a massive nutrition research project that studied and analyzed the diets of more than 100 Chinese villages and how these diets correlate with heart disease, cancer diabetes, autoimmune disorders, macular degeneration and neuro degenerative diseases, is highly scientific, but very accessible and informative.

The findings of the book strongly favor a plant-based and whole-foods diet, which is counter to the Western diet which is typically high in fat, high in processed foods and high in fat-laden meat. In fact, the authors of the book, father and son duo, Dr. Colin Campbell and Thomas Campbell are vegans. But fear not, the China Study will not force you to never fry an egg again, but it will open your eyes to not just what we eat but the food industry that is responsible for making the food that ends up on our dinner table.

If you are at all interested in health, preventive disease, global health, food behaviors and how politics and the environment influence our food supply, The China Study is a must-read.

Just read the book. Looking for meal ideas and prep ideas. Should I buy a juicer ? Will that still allow fiber?

I lost so much weight that NONE of my clothes fit. My doctor wanted me to take high cholesterol and blood pressure pills. I don't need them because of the China Study. Live to Eat, Don't Eat to Live. Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels.

My wife and I read the book in a couple of days - very eye opening and, when we got home from our trip we have dropped eating all meat, dairy - already we have noticed an amazing change in our hunger...we are not craving food like we used to. Vitamin B12 is lacking from plants so we are taking a suppliment to address that lack....we enjoy the flavour of our food better and are excited to move towards better eating and life.

What an eye-opening book. But as for specifics as a diet. There is no info. Whole foods. Apparently you can eat all vegetables, all fruits, all whole grains including whole grain pastas. Anything else that comes out of the ground is fair game. Oil and fish are to be minimized. Meat, dairy, eggs and milk are not to be eaten. Or basically to do the best we can with it.

I so far like what little I have read. I however would love to talk with someone who has used this book to follow and show me some pointers before I purchase it. I am a senior and hardly cook at all for myself as I have issues with standing so sometime (a lot of times ) I just do not bother eating or just grab toast to fill me until I must eat again. If this is very complicated I may be barking up the wrong tree so to say, but living alone I just may be able to follow a better eating regime.

I started to read "The China Study" and I decided to give the diet a try. I can't give up cheese and olive oil, however. I am a classic carnivore...but so far, my body feels an instant difference in not consuming any meat!
