Can Medifast be less restrictive in social situations involving food?

Mary-Louise Meyer asked this question Mar 19th, 2013 3:57 pm

It is very restrictive. Next to impossible in social occasions involving eating. I am 3 1/2 months into the program and 36lbs lighter, but am now depressed with no social life to speak of. I'll be thin, but friendless if I stay on the program much longer! Why can't it be more forgiving in social situation?

I noticed that I had the same issues....Though, I believe that as long as you plan ahead in social situations, you'd be able to use your "lean and green" meal when out with your friends! Also, if you're a drinker (which I am!) try drinking vodka with a mixer such as diet-7up or a diet hansens soda... no fat, hardly any calories, and vodka is quite low in carbs, just like a medifast meal! Often, I'll switch out a medifast meal for 2 vodka drinks! It may not be the SMARTEST and SAFEST way to lose the weight, but it keeps me happy, sane, and I'm able to hang out with friends more often!!

That's exactly what you should do. I went out Saturday with some friends and I just took the carb out of my meal and ordered double veggies and the smaller sized steak. I have lost 6 pounds this week. Totally worth it, and you can still have a social life.

Not sure what kind of occasions you are referring to, but there are lots of ways to incorporate you lean and green into social occasions...Also, bring your own calorie free drink and pour it on a wine glass or over ice and make a "mocktail"...bring a dish that you know has what you can eat..or if it is buffet type table, eat before you go and throw a bar in your purse for later if you need to....Don't avoid your friends...and when you are in maintenance, you can have a treat now and again..

I've been on the diet long enough to lose over 30 pounds, and I have had no problems with social situations. I eat salads and grilled meats when I go out, and take a serving of my preferred dressing in my purse. I drink sparkling water. I keep 2 or 3 bars in my purse in case I'm out longer than planned. At parties I take a contribution that I know I can eat. I think a lot of it is the attitude you take with you when you go out, whether or not you feed resentful and deprived. Just remember that you are doing this for you, and once you reach your goal, you will have more leeway for the occasional celebration.
