The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends 20% - 35% of total calories to be in the form of fat. To give you a reference point, at 2,000 calories, 30% is 65 grams of fat. Fats provide 9 calories per gram. The healthiest fats come from olive oil, nuts, seeds, avocadoes, and oily fish. No more than 10% of dietary fat should come from saturated fats. Saturated fat is found primarily in animal foods, like fatty meats, full-fat dairy products, as well as in fried foods and bakery products. - Mary Hartley, RD for DietsInReview.com
