How to Burn Lots of Fat Lifting Light Weights?

Chris Matheson asked this question Dec 31st, 2010 7:36 pm

There aren't many exercises I enjoy, but I do love lifting weights. So I kinda want to stick with that. How do I do it so that I get rid of all my body fat?

Simply put: by continuing to lift weights. Lifting weights burns fat in two ways. The first, and most obvious, is that when you exercise, you burn calories and fat by using your fat stores for fuel. The other way is that by building muscle, you increase your resting metabolism, so the more muscle you have on your body, the more fat you burn without even trying.

The only trick to this is you have to lift weights heavy enough to build muscle. Some people are scared of heavy weights because they don't want to "bulk up" but bulking is impossible without specific, strategic effort, especially in the nutrition department. No one gains bulky muscle without a concerted effort- it's just science.

The way to know if a weight is right for you is to pick a weight that allows you to complete 10-15 reps with good form to failure if you are a woman, and 6-8 reps with good form to failure if you are man. Anything lighter, and you are wasting your time, and anything heavier and you are setting yourself up for injury.
