Is 17 Day Diet Safe for Diabetics?

I am confused. The book says type 1 diabetics should not use this diet but this site says it is absolutely goo

I have a 17 year old daughter who is a type 1 diabetic for 9 years. She has been picking up weight over the years and is not happy with it. Is the 17 day diet safe for her or are there modifications for her?
