South Beach Diet--will I lose?

gonna lose it asked this question Jun 11th, 2011 12:33 pm

I'm on day 6 and haven't followed the book day by day precisely, but also haven't eaten any of the "foods to avoid". At times, I've felt weird, sort of light-headed, irritable, low energy. I grab a handful of almonds or some type of nuts or eat a teaspoon of peanut butter and this usually helps. I'm missing fruit and bread. I ordinarily eat healthy, no fast food, creamy sauces, fatty things-- and have never struggled with weight. About 6 years ago, I steadily began to put on the pounds and have gained 40 lbs over these years. I'm 47 and wearing a sz 14, feeling frumpy and middle aged. Not ready for this! So I'm going to stick to it but I'm hoping that I will lose on this diet. Will give updates and appreciate the feedback here. Thanks!

Your "story" is similar to mine. I've never had a weight problem, but I've always been conscious of making the right choices and exercising. At age 50 I started gaining weight, 10 lbs in a year, and have been unable to shed this extra weight. Today is my third day on South Beach Diet.........so far so good:).

Deb

I did this diet about a decade ago with much success. However, recent life stresses causes me to gain weight again but those are going away (ended relationship with an abusive man). So its tabula rasa now! Just cleaned out my fridge and am ready to begin anew. I've been eating relatively healthily most of my life so am aware that in the end South Beach is a sensible way to eat, not a diet per se. This AM I weighed in at 151 lbs at 5'7 and my size 8 clothing barely fits. With this diet and regular exercise (which I had abandoned), everyone will have luck, the pace of weight loss will just differ. Patience is the key.
