2012 Presidential Candidate Positions on Health Care

Sarah Palin is a former governor of Alaska, and was the Republican nominee for vice president in the 2008 presidential election. Currently, she is a political commentator for Fox news. Some believe she is a possible candidate in the 2012 presidential election, but her official decision to run is still pending.

Individual Issues:

  • Supporter of more private sector choices
  • In the Alaska 2009 State of the State Address, she said that good health is a "matter of personal responsibility," however the government should make recommendations for prevention
  • Supported running mate Sen. McCain's proposal to provide a $5000 tax credit to families who purchase their own health coverage, as opposed to having more people enroll in public plans
  • Palin has outspokenly criticized guidelines to provide children with healthy snacks in schools, calling the measures "a nanny state run amok"
