Degrees of Vegetarianism

The freegan slogan is "vegan unless it's free," which some people chose to adopt this lifestyle as a means of opting out of a the mainstream economy. Freegans sometimes get a reputation for being dumper-divers, but many more simply establish relationships with restaurants and grocery stores, who are often forced to throw away a considerable amount of food that's still edible. Freeganism may include more foods than a raw vegan, but its boundaries are ridged in other ways.

In terms of diet, you might describe a freegan as a cross between a flexitarian and a vegan. Like flexitarians, freegans do occasionally eat meat, dairy and eggs. However, they never purchase these products. There are some freegans who are entirely committed to not buying any food, and are able to sustain themselves.
