Actor David Krumholtz is Playing Coy About Weight Gain with Tweet

Actor David Krumholtz, a staple in zany Hollywood comedies for over a decade, has taken to Twitter to address speculation over his considerable weight gain. But first, some background. The usually petite Krumholtz is one of those actors with a recognizable face but little name recognition. Usually cast as a bit player, you’ve definitely seen him in movies like 10 Things I Hate About You and Superbad, and the television shows Freaks & Geeks and Numb3rs. If you’re still not tracking, this picture should clear it up:

Much better. Funny guy, right? After tweeting a link to an on-camera interview early Wednesday afternoon, Krumholtz’s followers bombarded him with questions regarding his disheveled and portly appearance. His response was crass, veiled, and unclear.

He’s either gained the weight for a role or he’s just poking fun at himself. After a quick scan of IMDB.com, I learned that the only project he’s currently working on is a small part in a film called The Judge, with A-listers Robert Downey Jr., Robert Duvall, and Leighton Meester. Details about his character in the film weren’t readily available. Deep in to the interview he linked in the aforementioned tweet, he finally shed some light on his rotund new look. Here’s a clip of the interview synced up to when he makes a reference to his weight gain.

As you can see, Krumholtz slurps a 20-ounce latte and reveals his playful frustration at the effect his weight is having on his career. At least his new look hasn’t driven his wife away, who apparently enjoys popping his pimples. From his facetious tone in the interview and tweet, one can assume his weight gain isn’t career driven, but a mere late-30s bulge. On another sad note, Krumholtz says a sequel to 10 Things I Hate About You is never happening, so we’re pretty bummed about that.

I’m so sad, he was good looking in Numbers. Please lose the weight and watch the roles come your way.

Femblogger says:

I agree. He was so cute and sexy looking in Numbers and now just a big fat ugly pig. Why do men think that’s OK for them to let themselves go? He sucks to look at on screen now. Don’t see why he can’t get a personal trainer and watch his diet, like all the beautiful women in Hollywood have to do if they want to work. (okay, after I typed this, I saw he had thyroid cancer. So that sucks, and maybe the weight gain is something he has no control over)

He had thyroid cancer.

Cynthia Astle says:

Yes, and as a fellow thyroid cancer survivor, I can attest that losing one’s thyroid gland results in massive weight gain that is very hard to control. I have the greatest sympathy for David’s condition and wish him all the best.

Gary says:

I was shocked to see David Krumholtz in The Deuce (2017) with the extra weight. Even more shocked to see this discussion from 2013.

Kodanshi says:

Ay, I saw him in The Deuce and was genuinely shocked. Still the same mannerisms and expressions I remember from Numb3rs though!

Logan says:

Me too saw him in Deuce i was like OMG! I hope he is ok, great character actor….

Gerri says:

Love him overweight or not. I wish him well. Did not know he has thyroid cancer

Hey, he’s an actor. Just like many who have done the weight thing for a role. Deniro, Christian Bale, Matthew Maconaghy to name a few.

MIkey Gavin says:

Dam you people are cruel. Cancer, I hope not, seems to be a genuinely nice person when I’ve seen him interviewed. He put on some weight, deal with it people, he’s got enough money to take it off like he did for Billions (yeah u won’t notice who he is but good for him). We should all be so comfortable with our bodies, weight, and image.

I too am dealing with the aftermath of thyroid cancer and the ups and downs of weight when trying to regulate my TSH. It can be done so don’t get discouraged. You are a fabulous actor no matter what weight you are.

Dave McIntyre says:

He has since lost over 100 pounds and looks like himself again in Season 2 of the Duece

Sherry says:

I still think he looks great, but prefer the longer hair like he had in Numbers. Very happy that he is doing well after having thyroid cancer. I’m surprised he’s not much bigger than he is considering the thyroid problems.
