Ana Alvarado says she started gaining weight at the age of 23, after her daughter’s father left them. Food served as both a comfort and a defense. Ana says being overweight was “a way to stay unattractive so I wouldn’t get hurt again.” Today, however, her extra pounds are causing her a different kind of pain: in her knees and lower back. Ana also suffers from high blood pressure. She’s ready to turn her life around and become a heather person with her daughter, Irene, who is also a contestant in season eleven.
