Slim-Fast Recalls Ready-to-Drink Beverages

slim-fastThe Unilever Corporation, manufacturer of the Slim-Fast line of diet supplements and scores of other products is conducting a nationwide voluntary recall of all Slim-Fast® Ready-to-Drink products in cans, due to the possibility of contamination with Bacillus cereus, a micro-organism, which may cause diarrhea and possibly nausea and/or vomiting, according to the corporation’s website.

The only Slim-Fast product that is affected is the Ready-to-Drink cans, not the powders, meal bars or snack bars. All Slim-Fast Ready-to-Drink cans are at risk regardless of flavor, UPC code, lot code or expiration date. The three flavors, Cappuccino Delight, Creamy Milk Chocolate and Strawberries ‘N Cream, are packaged in paperboard cartons and contain four, six or 12 steel cans that are 11 ounces (325 mL) each.

When five customers reported gastrointestinal complications, Unilever cooperated with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and recalled millions of the Ready-to-Drink cans and contacted all retail stores that carry the product.

If you have any Slim-Fast Ready-to-Drink shakes discard them immediately and call Unilever at 1-800-896-9479 to get a full refund.
