Gaining weight is often unsettling and upsetting when it occurs to the person who falls victim to packing on the pounds, but imagine on top of the devastation and your new physical and health problems, you are also fired from your job because of it.
Well, for Carnie Wilson, the 42 year-old 5’3″ singer famous for her pop group Wilson Phillips and television hosting gigs, the case is just that.
Wilson, who has often been in the press for her ever-changing weight, often losing a significant amount of it, then gaining most of it back, and sometimes then some, has been yo-yo dieting for years. In 1999, she also reportedly underwent gastric bypass surgery where she dropped from 300 pounds to 150 pounds. Following that she posed for Playboy and appeared in the television show Celebrity Fit Club.
After all of that, in March of 2024 she was then offered a contract to become the spokesperson for The Fresh Diet, the health food home and office delivery company that has become popular across America. The Fresh Diet also boasts a calorie-controlled health program that aims to ensure proper nutrition, but according to published reports, Wilson wasn’t losing any weight on the program. While on The Fresh Diet, Wilson was also allegedly promoting her own cheesecake company simultaneously, a clear conflict of interest. Her promotional photos have since been removed from the website and she has been fired from her role.
“Carnie Wilson was let go as spokesperson for The Fresh Diet after losing only 19 lbs on the program – and then gaining it all back (plus some) after she launched her own cheesecake company,” said Ezzy Duchman, spokesperson for The Fresh Diet.
“If you’re baking cheesecake and selling it, then you can’t promote a diet company,” he added.
Wilson’s rep argues her dismantled collaboration with The Fresh Diet is a breach of contract, but there have not been any reports about whether or not Wilson will take legal action.
