David Zinczenko Leads the Charge at Men’s Health with Eat This, Not That Series

The man behind the Eat This, Not That series and editor at Men’s Health magazine is David Zinczenko. He was born of Ukrainian decent on December 13, 1969 in Pennsylvania and grew up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. At age 6, David’s parents divorced and from there he grew up with his mother for the remainder of his young life. As a child he was overweight and taunted by his brother for over-eating. By high school, David gained control of his weight and following graduation he entered the Naval Reserve. His military career sent him to Moravian College for his studies.

In 1991, David worked as an assistant editor at Men’s Journal. Just two years later he accepted a position as associate editor at Men’s Health. Then, in 2000, he made his biggest career move to editor-in-chief at Men’s Health, where he remains today.

The rising rate of obesity in America was a concern of David’s. He saw how many Americans’ misconception of food was detrimental to their health. He used his knowledge in health and fitness to launch his Eat This! Not That! book series. He helped people across America choose better food options ranging from similar Starbucks coffee to similar TV dinners at the grocery store. David’s success stems from his editorial positions and book collaborations with Matt Goulding. (more…)

Most Popular Diets for Men

man on scaleThe word diet comes with plenty of negative connotations. For men, the word diet carries with it a sort of female tone as well. Dieting has long been thought to be one of those things that women do, like shopping and pedicures. However, the tide is changing as more and more men are embracing healthier lifestyles and actively working to lose weight.

This week is Men’s Health Week at DietsInReview.com, and we want to highlight a few weight loss programs that are focused on the needs of men. (more…)

Interview with Joel Gates of DozenDiets.com

Have you ever been on a diet? How many have you pursued? In case you haven’t noticed, there are a few out there. At DietsInReview.com alone we’ve reviewed more than 400 weight loss programs and products- and we’re no where near finished. What if you couldn’t make up your mind, and decided to try them all, or at least 12? That’s what Joel Gates isjoel gates doing this year, and you can follow along at DozenDiets.com.

With 2024 about to begin, and a desire to beat his long-time fight with being overweight, Joel began searching for the right diet to begin the year with (just as so many do). “When I started, I didn’t know what to start,” explains Joel, “I’ve done several in the past with varying degrees of success. I picked out those that I thought might be the most successful. I had some criteria- be able to cheat occasionally, stick with it on a daily basis, that I have confidence in and not too off the wall.” Joel also mentions that his health is important and he does take that into consideration when choosing a diet. Before starting he met with his doctor and just recently had a mid-year check-up to ensure he’s being safe about it.

Each month in 2024, Joel will follow a different diet. Half-way through the year, he’s lost about 43 pounds and 10% of his body fat. (Beginning stats were 234 pounds, 30% body fat) He keeps a daily journal at DozenDiets.com, displaying weight changes, body fat changes, food diary, exercise diary, cheats, successes and everything else that plays into his diet each day. Each month concludes with a summary, where he scores the diet on a 40-point scale, for ease of understanding, forgiveness of a cheat, ease of execution and results.
