BACKGROUNDBACKGROUND Start the Diet Now Advertisement

The term "eating local" is a buzz phrase for eating for a healthier you and planet. But for 100-Mile Diet authors, Alisa Smith and J.B. MacKinnon, they took this concept one step further. For one year these writers subsisted on foods that were raised and grown within a 100-mile radius of their Canadian home. Relying on farmer's markets and local farms, they ate a diet of locally-raised chicken, fresh-caught seafood and seasonal fruits and vegetables.

Inspired by the increasingly popular locavore movement, The 100-Mile Diet is not a preachy read about why we all should be eating more locally, but rather a personal, honest and often humorous account of one urban couple's experience of eating locally and sustainably.

This is just a great idea for a healthy diet. I've recently tried to become more aware of what I am putting into my body. If you really pay attention to some of the stuff the grocery store is selling you. I've never head the term locavore before. I like it and could see it really getting big here in a little while. Thanks for sharing, think I'll be trying to check this book out soon.

Great diet or simply way of life. I always try to eat locally and seasonally. It is fresher and healthier for your body and our planet!

This is completely awesome-- rather than calling it a diet, it should be some sort of manifesto.

If more people took the time to support their local farmers as opposed to those industrial scum bags, things would be a lot better for everyone.
