Yield: Serves 8

Ingredients

  • 8 medium ripe nectarines, halved and pitted
  • 2 T. Brown Sugar

Ginger Syrup:

  • 3/4 c. water
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 3 oz fresh ginger root
  • pinch Chinese Five Spice

Instructions

Nectarines:

  1. In a shallow baking dish, place nectarines cut side up. Sprinkle with brown sugar. Broil in oven approximately 7 minutes until slightly browned and tender.

Ginger Syrup:

  1. Combine water and sugar in small pot and bring to simmer.

  2. Slice the ginger root into thin pieces and add to the pot. Simmer for 35-45 minutes, uncovered. When the syrup has reduced to half it’s original volume, remove from burner and strain. Discard ginger. Add Chinese Five Spice to the hot syrup and stir.

  3. After the nectarines are cooked, place two halves on each dessert plate and pour a spoonful of ginger syrup atop each nectarine. Serve while hot.
