Easy Baked Beans

A must have at any summer picnic!

Calories 115. cholesterol 18 grams, protein 7 grams, fat 2 grams, NA 262 milligrams. Food exchange, 1 bread, 1 lean meat, Omit salt for low sodium diets.
Yield: Serves 6-8

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. dry great northern beans
  • 4 oz. chopped center cut ham
  • 6 oz. tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp. dijon mustard
  • Cold water as necessary
  • 1 c. chopped onions
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. Brown Sugar Twin

Instructions

  1. Wash beans, add cold water to cover, bring to a boil
  2. Simmer for 5 minutes
  3. Remove from heat, and let stand 2 to 3 hours
  4. Drain well
  5. Cover again with cold water to about 1/2 inch over top of beans
  6. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and let simmer for about 2 1/2 hours or until the beans are soft
  7. Mix beans and remaining ingredients
  8. Place in shallow baking dish and bake uncovered at 325 degrees for 2 to 3 hours stirring every hour
