Debbie Lounds' Biggest Loser Elimination Interview

Find out how the Jazzy Granny patched things up at Biggest Loser and how she's preparing for her first marathon.

It's never easy being the first to leave Biggest Loser, but Debbie sounded more than prepared to make the exit. Debbie Lounds is a 60-year-old grandmother who works in oncology radiation at the University of Michigan hospital. She started Biggest Loser at 239 pounds and lost 6 pounds in her week at the ranch. She's no doubt lost even more at home, a place she was comfortable returning to because of the support she has and the healthy path she'd already set out on.

"Others had health problems like sleep apnea, high blood pressure, and diabetes, but I didn't have any of those things," she said in her elimination interview about why she was OK being the "sacrificial lamb."

What Debbie may end up being known for more than as one of the healthier contestants was how she ended things. Introducing herself as the "jazzy granny" at the beginning, she quickly left an impression as a grumpy granny, telling teammate Bonnie "your crying is kind of annoying" during the elimination deliberation. The reaction from fans was immediate and no one felt too bad that she was sent home. In her interview Debbie reiterated that Bonnie's crying "irritated me," but also stressed that "I wasn't coming from a place of meanness… I speak what is on my mind." Debbie says she didn't really get a chance to defend herself on the show, and said "I recognize I come across as unsympathetic." Since her elimination she and Bonnie, who were roommates on the ranch, have spoken and she says they "get along just fine."

Before joining the show Debbie had already embarked on living a healthier lifestyle, something she set out to do upon her sixtieth birthday. She now works out five or six days each week, claiming that she does enjoy it more that she used to. "I can run, pick-up, and twirl around with my grandkids," she said.

Part of her at-home training is for the marathon that all season 12 contestants will run, which will place the winner as an instant finale at this season's finale. She eluded to the marathon being run in October, so she doesn't have much time left to prepare. "If I have to crawl across that finish line that's what I'm gonna do," Debbie told us when talking about the event. It's nothing that something that was ever on her bucket list, she added, but it is now. Her training has involved a lot of jogging and fast walking.

As for working with Anna Kournikova, Debbie called her "a real task master who works you hard." She never doubted Anna's abilities, saying that she had "complete faith in the producers in their selection of the trainers."

While Debbie may have left a sour taste in the mouths of viewers during the season premiere, it appears that's not the case with her fellow contestants. "I consider everyone on season 12 my friends and I love them. We are one family." She told us about a pact they made to stand together, and it sounds like they're sticking to it.
