Debi Mazar's 4 Tips for Healthy Kids

The path for healthy children starts on day one.

Debi Mazar is a health-conscious actress, currently co-starring in Extra Virgin with her husband on the Cooking Channel. She recently partnered with Truvia to help spread the word about making natural food choices, especially when it comes to the diets of our kids. Exclusively with DietsInReview, Debi shared her four tips for raising healthy kids. 1) Schedule Family Dinners - Debi says she and her husband do this with their two daughter every night. With their girls they prepare a balanced dinner (they get to help cook!) and they have a discussion. 2) Prepare and Plan Lunches - Just like eating at a restaurant, this helps you know and control what your kids are eating. 3) Swap Sugar for Fruit - Debi is often surprised at the bowls of sugary treats at birthday parties. Instead, she says offer kids fresh fruit, which is naturally sweet. 4) Try Truvia as a Sugar Substitute - If you're trying to watch yours or your child's sugar intake, make a switch to the natural sweetener Truvia, which is made from the "better tasting part of the stevia leaf." Even with our 1-yr old, we make a point of sitting down to dinner as a family. She's already complaining to get down before we're done, but we make her sit through the meal right along with us. She loves grilled fish, all fruits and vegetables, and yogurt. Debi is right - it starts at day one, and it take the entire family's efforts.

I like that she's really strongly convicted about having healthful meals with her kids. Intense but awesome.
