Atkins Diet vs. Dukan Diet

The Dukan Diet: 2 Steps to Lose the Weight, 2 Steps to Keep It Off ForeverThe Dukan Diet is making a big splash in the English-speaking world, with many high-profile celebrities being linked to the French weight-loss plan. As the plan gains popularity, it’s often compared to the Atkins diet or described as the “French Atkins.” We decided to take a closer look at these two low-carb diet plans, to see how far the similarity goes.

For the purposes of this comparison I am using Dr. Atkin’s New Diet Revolution, the last book actually written by Dr. Robert Atkins before his death, and The Dukan Diet: 2 Steps to Lose the Weight, 2 Steps to Keep It Off Forever.

Price

Both of these books are available online and in stores for less than $20.00. Both diets also have companion websites that can help users track their progress and get support from others who are following the plan. Both sites are free to use, but also sell additional products, such as Dukan Oat Bran or Atkins snack bars.

Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria Found in U.S. Meat

Recent studies have shown antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria, such as MRSA, are in nearly half of the United States’ meat supply. The dangers of this have been shouted by followers of the organic movement for years.

It’s reasonably argued that this event is a culmination of factory farms. On farms where livestock is kept in cramped quarters and antibiotics are overused, bacteria is given the perfect environment to thrive, mutate and gain resistance.

Scientific research needs to continue on this topic but as of now, there doesn’t seem to be any reason to swear off meat altogether. It’s believed that, although the bacteria is present, it doesn’t typically transfer to humans during consumption. However, it’s really not that simple.

5 Strategies for Beating Mindless Eating

Whether you’re at your computer chomping on a bag of pretzels or watching television shoveling spoonful after spoonful of ice cream into your mouth, mindless munching is one surefire way to pack on the pounds. In fact, just mindlessly eating 100 calories a day, the equivalent of a large apple or a palmful of almonds, can lead to gaining up to 10 pounds in a year.

To prevent this mindless eating weight gain, put into practice these five ways to beat unintentional extra calories.

1. Never get too hungry. The more powerful your stomach growls, the more likely you are to ravenously consume a surge of calories before your body and brain can register that you’ve had enough. Therefore, aim to eat every three to four hours with meals and snacks comprised of healthy carbs, good fats and a lean protein.

Easter is now over, and while your children (and maybe even you) are waking up from your sugar coma with a belly ache, a nice healthy meal is the perfect thing to get you right back into the swing of things. Luckily, you probably have a whole carton of eggs left in your fridge that didn’t get hard boiled or dyed that you were planning on tossing before the expiration date hits. Before you throw them away, consider using them in one of these healthy and delicious egg recipes that will energize your family and undo some of those handfuls of jelly beans you had yesterday.

French toast: Whisk four eggs in a bowl. Mix in a teaspoon of sugar and a teaspoon of cinnamon. Add a cup of milk. Dip a slice of bread in the mixture, and cook on a sprayed skillet or griddle. Heat them on low and flip. You’ll know they’re done when both sides are golden brown. Do that 12 times, and you can serve a family of five.
