What is the 2,000 Calorie Diet?

I’ll be honest, the 2,000 Calorie Diet is only an appropriate weight-loss diet for a special segment of the population. That segment would include active young men with lots of muscle mass, growing teenagers, women who are extremely active, and people who are very tall with a large frame. The rest of us? We’ll probably maintain our weight or even gain weight with this many calories.

That being said, this is a delicious diet with lots of variety and lots of food to fill you up and fuel those workouts! Read on for a full 2,000 Calorie Diet eating and workout plan!

2,000 Calorie Diet Eating Plan

Kate Middleton’s Wedding Workout

The engagement that we’ve all been waiting for has come to pass – Prince William and Kate Middleton are slated to be married this spring. The eyes of the world have never been on Kate more than now, and it will only increase as the wedding comes closer. Women the world over have been under the same scrutiny, albeit in a less intensive light, and know too well the pressure to be a bride in top physical condition. Kate has always been in good physical condition, although she was seen to drop quite a bit of weight when her relationship with Prince William came into the public eye, quite possibly due to the harassment of the media. While in college, she was the captain of the hockey team. She loves to ski and goes skiing with Prince William several times a year.

Babycakes NYC is a kosher, vegan bakery that caters to many dietary needs and lifestyles at its location in the Big Apple as well as a second outpost in LA. Women Should Eat Fish to Lower Stroke Risk

A recent study revealed that women who eat more than three servings of fish per week are less likely to experience a stroke. Specifically, fish-lovers in Sweden, where the study occurred, were 16 percent less likely to experience a stroke over a 10-year-period, relative to those who ate fish less than once a week.

Fish consumption in many countries, including the U.S., is far too low, and increased fish consumption would likely result in substantial benefits in the population,” Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian of the Harvard School of Public Health told Reuters Health.

When choosing fish to eat, it’s best to opt for fish that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, found most abundantly in fatty fish like salmon, mackerel and albacore tuna. “But any fish is better than none,” Mozaffarian noted.

Courtney Thorne-Smith Still Loves Atkins After 10 Years

Atkins SpokeswomanThe actress best known for her roles on Melrose Place and According to Jim, Courtney Thorne-Smith became a spokesperson for Atkins about two years ago. She’s even signed on for her third year, according to a press release published two days ago.

Thorne-Smith says she struggled with her weight for many years and tried many diet plans. In the end, the low-carb, high-protein Atkins diet plan worked for her. She’s been in the “maintenance” phase of the Atkins diet for the past ten years.

She argues that people shouldn’t confuse the nearly-no-carb “Induction” phase of the diet for the whole plan. “When I finally went back and read the Atkins book, I was able to figure out what I needed to eat in order to be my own food judge. I eat a plant-based diet, and no starch or sugar,” Courtney told ThatsFit. She does allow herself to cheat on special occasions: “Of course, like on my son’s first birthday, I had a piece of cake. It’s just a rare treat, so to balance it out, I won’t have as much fruit the next day.”

While she was only on the ranch for one week, Ana’s already lost more than 50 pounds at home, with a goal to lose 100 pounds by the May 2024 finale.

Listen now as Ana talks to us about how her weight loss has inspired her co-workers to get in shape, and why she’s not making a resolution this year.

Healthy Lunch Meat Brands for a Better Sandwich

By Emily Fonnesbeck RD, CD, nutritionist for the Biggest Loser Resort.

Generally speaking, I don’t really like lunch meat. Most are high in sodium, contain fillers and byproducts, and are processed with nitrates and nitrites. But I realize they are convenient so if you are willing to spend a little more money, you can control the quality of the product.

Specific brands I recommend are Boar’s Head, Applegate Farms, Nature’s Promise and Wellshire Farms. These will be 100% meat without the fillers and may have low sodium varieties, which I would recommend if you can find them. They are most likely be found at the deli counter rather than prepackaged on the shelf. Choose turkey, chicken, lean ham or even lean roast beef over pastrami, liverwurst, pepperoni, salami or bologna. (more…)

Dairy May Cut Diabetes Risk

We all know how good dairy is for bone health and that it can play a positive role in fat-loss, but now scientists believe that dairy may play another positive role in our health: reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes.

Researchers have identified a natural substance in dairy fat that may substantially reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes. The compound, called trans-palmitoleic acid, is a fatty acid that is found in milk, cheese, yogurt and butter. It is not produced by the body and can only come from your diet.

Right now, you’re probably confused. After all, nutrition and health professionals have been telling us to choose low-fat dairy for years, right? Well according to the December issue of Annals of Internal Medicine, dairy fat is different in its make-up than other industrially produced trans fats found that are found in partially hydrogenated vegetable oils, which have been linked to higher risk of heart disease. On the other hand, trans-palmitoleic acid is almost exclusively found in naturally-occurring dairy and meat trans fats, which in prior studies have not been linked to higher heart disease risk, according to the study.
