Mike Morelli’s Weight Loss Maintenance after Biggest Loser

mike morelli before and afterCalorie counting, watching sodium intake, pounding water like I was preparing to traverse the Sahara, and I thought I had a good handle on my weight. After months of working out nonstop, eating perfectly, and cutting weight, I thought that having to maintain my new weight would be all too easy. As it turns out, this 19-year-old has some things to learn.

I’ve been home for about a month since the Season 7 Biggest Loser finale, and it has been one the toughest challenges I have had to face yet.

Now that I’m on my own with my weight, I have had my share of struggles and successes. Many people have asked me what I do now that I’m home. What I eat. How I workout. How did I do it. I have asked myself those same questions everyday since I got back home. (more…)

That’s right, losing weight is fun and easy! It must be, because I’ve done it several times. In 1993 I got to my goal weight after losing 90 pounds. By 2002 I’d gained 115 pounds, so in 2002/03 I lost it again. Then by 2024 I’d gained 50 pounds, so lost it in 2024/09. Hmm…now that I think about it, it wasn’t much fun. And it’s lots of work. So what went wrong?

I tried to do it by myself. (more…)

Personalized Fitness Plan Equals Success

woman-at-computerBloggers are full of good ideas. We will give you reasons to run, tell you what to have for breakfast, encourage you to try a trendy fitness class, suggest gifts for your mom, and even tell you where to live.

Ultimately, however, ideal is not always realistic, and it will not be ideal if you won’t follow through. You are more likely to be successful if you choose the diet and exercise plan that works best for you and in your life. Often that may not be the “best” plan. Just like I believe lifestyle changing New Year’s resolutions have a very high failure rate, I would not encourage you to take on a fitness routine that seems tortuous to you. childrens muay thai classThere are lots of activities that kids can be involved in. Soccer, swim team, ballet, gymnastics – my kids have done them all. Rarely have they been involved in a sport that I think holds life lasting benefits – until now. They love the instructors, who make every class exciting, and the self-defense that they’ve learned has been amazing. The instructors keep tabs on all of the students, asking about grades and behavior at home and reinforcing the desired behaviors. (more…)
