New Mom Ivanka Trump Shares Her Secrets to Dropping the Baby Weight

This month Ivanka Trump graces the cover of the Shape magazine, showing off her slim and strong post-baby body. Trump has lost about thirty pounds since having her second baby, which is a photo-worthy accomplishment. (The Shape cover was taken just a few months after Trump’s baby was born.) So how did she do it?

Trump discussed a few of her key moves, including how she fits workouts into her busy life as a mother, with the magazine: “I’ll take the stairs instead of the elevator, or when I’m on a phone call I’ll do squats or pace the room when I’m talking,” she saidd. Trump also said that she eats a lot healthier since becoming a mother, focusing on lean proteins instead of pasta and pizza.

But Trump isn’t the only celebrity mom to recently revel in her new post-baby body. Several stars are talking about losing the baby weight. Here are two more of our favorite moms who have recently made headlines: (more…)

Alicia Silverstone’s Clueless, Anecdotal Pregnancy Advice Leaves us Saying ‘As If!’

The Kind Mama - alicia silverstoneAlicia Silverstone is known for many things, like being an actress, star of Aerosmith videos, vegan, and champion for the environment. She is not, however, a licensed physician or even a wise shaman, though in her new book, The Kind Mama, she’s giving advice that has our experts seeing red and shouting, “As if!”

A few eyebrow-raising comments from the book include, “Bananas are a naughty food for a baby,” “Dairy leaves toxic sludge in your baby house (uterus),” “The diaper industry is fueled by corporate-backed pseudoscience,” and also, pretty much everything she talks about in the book is “yummy.”

We’ve been HERE before

This is not the first time the Clueless star has been in the news for her nontraditional parenting style. Wait, I didn’t mean to call her clueless, I meant she was in the 90s cult classic movie, Clueless. Actually, come to think of it, either way that sentence works. Anyway, there was that time she chewed up her toddler’s food and fed him from her own mouth, baby bird style. Then, she admitted to eating her own placenta after his birth. She didn’t just reach down, grab it and munch on it. It was in pill form, so it’s totally not weird.

Did she really just go there about infertility? Yep, she did.

I believe Alicia had good intentions when she wrote this book, but she has to know that some of her claims will be challenged. It’s widely known that our managing editor, Brandi Koskie, had infertility issues before giving birth to her daughter, so when she read Alicia’s one-size-fits-all fertility rule about simply “cleaning up your baby house,” “having lots of yummy sex,” and avoiding fertility drugs, she had a swift response:

“Doesn’t that just sound delightful and peachy keen? Well, I’m here to tell you that Alicia is delusional. (more…)

Raw Food Diet Praised for its Disease-Curing Benefits

There are many famous and ordinary promoters of the raw food diet, an eating plan that encourages eating uncooked, unprocessed foods including fruits, vegetables, and some grains, nuts, and seeds. Raw food dieters say that cooking food destroys a lot of its nutritional content, and instead use juicers, dehydrators, and minimal heating of foods.

One recent inspiring story about the benefits of a raw food diet comes from a story in the August 27 issue of the Winnipeg Free Press. Truck driver Dave Conrardy went from 430 to 200 pounds after switching to raw foods, losing 100 pounds in just three months. His kidney condition and type 2 diabetes disappeared, and he stopped needing 18 of the 19 prescriptions he had been taking. Conrardy calls the raw food diet “the most healing diet on the planet” and now no longer drives trucks but gives motivational talks about his new lifestyle. (more…)

Alicia Silverstone Posts Video of Feeding Her Son Mouth-to-Mouth

I used to have this strange fascination with celebrity news. Or more accurately, strange obsession.

One of my favorite things to do in college was go to Barnes and Noble, grab an americano and a stack of magazines and drink up the fashion choices, eating habits and trivial doings of my favorite celebrities. It wasn’t until years later that I realized this wasn’t a productive use of my time and stopped. But I still can’t help spying the headlines when I’m at the grocery store just to make sure I’m not missing anything.

One of my most-loved celebrities? Alicia Silverstone. Can we say ‘Clueless’? That movie changed my life in the 6th grade. I was wearing plaid skirts and knee highs for years after the fact. So when I saw her name in the headlines this morning, I had to investigate. (more…)

Alicia Silverstone is Vegan and Pregnant

After five and half years of marriage to Christopher Jarecki, and over 13 years together, 34 year old Alicia Silverstone is excited to announce that she is expecting her first child, according to People magazine. While she has said previously that she has wanted to be a mother for as long as she can remember, Alicia has not announced if she will maintain her mostly vegan diet throughout her pregnancy. Alicia published The Kind Diet: A Simple Guide to Feeling Great, Losing Weight, and Saving the Planet in 2024 to aid others in adopting a vegan diet. Her lack of announcement seems to suggest that little has changed for her nutritionally.

Maintaining a vegan diet throughout pregnancy is pretty controversial with very strong opinions on both sides of the fence. While a woman is supporting a growing fetus and her body is changing with pregnancy, she has greater nutritional needs that not all believe can be met with a vegan diet. While Jillian Michaels is right that only 200-300 extra calories per day may be needed to grow a healthy baby, the nutritional needs packed into those calories are very high.

Alicia Silverstone Isn’t a Perfect Vegan

The Kind Diet book coverAlthough Alicia Silverstone is a huge proponent of vegan eating, she admits that she sometimes lets herself eat something that contains animal products. Dairy is her weakness, reports FitPerez. “If I was at a party and there was a tray of cheese sitting there and I had had drinks, then I might have a bite,” said Silverstone.

Although she’s author of a cookbook of her favorite vegan recipes, The Kind Diet, the actress doesn’t feel too guilty about these little indulgences in her otherwise strict vegan diet. “It’s human. It’s a really good reminder that sometimes you need to have what you remember is this good thing,” Alicia says. “Because then you have it, and you’re like, ‘Actually that wasn’t better than the recipes in my book.”

Dairy Alternatives to Rachael Ray’s Famous Vodka Cream Sauce

Pasta with cream sauceFor those of you who are a fan of Oprah, I certainly was intrigued by a recipe featured by famous chef Rachael Ray, termed “You won’t be single for long” vodka cream sauce. Not only because of the famous chef association but the title of the dish as well. With Valentine’s Day tomorrow I wanted to bring this recipe to the attention of all our readers. Whether you are single or attached this recipe is for you and I provide my own spin on it to allow eaters of dairy and non-dairy to indulge.

Of course my first thought as a person that has a food allergy to cow’s mik was, “cream, that’s not something I’m going to be able to try.” Most times when I see “cream sauce” on menus I go running for the hills. But I am also not the type to give up that easily, so I ventured to Oprah.com to review the recipe details, which can be found here: You won’t be single for long vodka cream sauce.

Listed within the ingredients: ½ cup of heavy cream and 1 tablespoon butter. I immediately went to my fridge and started looking through all the staples I keep on hand for myself so I don’t have to feel deprived that I can’t always enjoy the same goodies that others can. One of my favorite alternatives for butter is a product called Earth Balance buttery spread; I saw Alicia Silverstone using it as well during a segment talking about her diet – the Kind Diet. It has the same consistency as butter with a very mild taste; I use it for all my cooking needs. (more…)
