Ron and Max Morelli Prepare for Release of Fat Family, Fit Family

Now in its eleventh season, Biggest Loser has had individuals compete and teams of two, but ever more than that. Unless you count season seven. That’s when Ron Morelli and his son Mike Morelli competed as the brown team, a team of three if you count honorary member Max Morelli, the youngest son in the family. Ron and Mike went on to the final four that season, but Max watched from home; at 17 he was too young to join the show. However, the trio lost astounding weight together at home and continue to support one another today.

You can hear all about the impressive story of this family’s journey to health in their upcoming book Fat Family, Fit Family, a group effort that includes contributions from Becky Morelli, “the mom,” who also has her own weight loss success story to share.

In the meantime, we caught up with Ron and Max during a recent stay at Biggest Loser Resort. It was Max’s third trip, and a first for Ron.

First, catch-up with Max, a young man we’ve had the privilege of watching grow and transform into an inspiring, healthy and smart “kid.” Since 2024 he’s lost more than 150 pounds, mostly during his stays at the Resort but also from a lot of hard work at home.

Max Morelli Loses More than 100 Pounds at the Biggest Loser Resort [UPDATED]

UPDATE: Max lost a total of 47 pounds during his five-week stay at the Biggest Loser Resort in July 2024.

We first met Max Morelli in the fall of 2024 almost by accident. It was Biggest Loser season seven, and his father and brother, Ron and Mike Morelli, were competing as the brown team. The show often briefly introduces us to contestants’ families, but they are usually a distant sub story to what’s really going on at the ranch. But Max was different, and the moment he was introduced to America, we all fell in love with him.

While Mike and Ron were sweating it out on the show, Max, at 16-years old, was at home weighing about 425 pounds. He says he never realized he was that big until he saw their transformations during makeover week, and it became his wake-up call. We saw raw emotion from Max as he sobbed in his older brother’s arms, making it clear that he wanted to experience the same success.

“I felt awkward and didn’t know what I was getting myself into,” he says about his accidental appearance on the show and subsequent popularity. “I was just being myself. My emotions were real, the conversations were real, it was me being me.”

Watch our interview with Max in its entirety. The once painfully shy young teen is clearly a more confident, happier and even more mature young man.

Interview with Biggest Loser’s Ron Morelli and Mike Morelli

mike-morelli-and-ron-morelli1It’s a precarious position this father-son team has found themselves in, in fact Mike Morelli called it a worst-case scenario. They are part of the four finalists on Biggest Loser 7, but both Mike and his father, Ron Morelli, fell below the yellow line in the last week on the ranch. Neither were eliminated, but only one will advance as the third finalist to compete against Tara and Helen for the $250,000 prize and title of Biggest Loser.

“I hope that America votes Mike up,” pleads his father. A similar situation occurred with husband and wife duo Heba and Ed in season six, and fans ignored their pleas to send Heba to the finale, instead voting for Ed. When asked if they fear the same situation, Ron responded “Mike’s won enough hearts that Heba didn’t.”
