The O2 Diet

The O2 Diet

An antioxidant diet that promises weight loss and beauty.

Top Rated Diets of 2024
BACKGROUNDBACKGROUND Start the Diet Now Advertisement

The O2 Diet is based on the ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) scale, a calculus developed by the USDA that measures how well a food protects against free radicals, the culprits behind many forms of cancer, heart disease, and symptoms of aging.

In the past few years, research has shown that diets high in ORAC-foods like colorful fruits and vegetables and healthy fats can increase the body's capacity to rid itself of disease-causing free radicals. Consuming a diet rich in antioxidants has been linked to strengthening memory and cognition, preventing cancer and heart disease, improving skin, and aiding in weight loss.

The O2 Diet, by CBS’s The Early Show nutrition contributor Keri Glassman, MS, RD, CDN, shows you how to kick-start weight loss and even enhance your looks with a four-day cleanse followed by a four-week weight loss program.

Including recipes, tips for eating out and practical solutions to portion control, The O2 Diet can help you lose weigh while you gain confidence.

Glassman is also the author of The Snack Factor Diet.

DIET and NUTRITIONDIET and NUTRITION

The O2 Diet begins with a four-day cleanse, followed by a four-week diet, which focuses on eating whole and natural foods and avoiding foods that are processed or contain little nutritional value.

Rather than counting calories or other restrictions, O2 suggests a daily intake that includes 30,000 ORAC points. While this may sound daunting, Glassman spells out the details and lists foods with the highest ORAC count for your easy calculation.

On the O2 Diet you will learn how to choose meals on-the-go that pack a strong ORAC punch as well as how to dine out and satisfy your sweet tooth without unleashing an army of dangerous free radicals in your system.

On the O2 Diet you might spend the day eating Caramelized Pear and Pecan French Toast, Flank Steak with Chimichurri Sauce, Chocolate Covered Pecans and tossing it back with a healthy twist on sangria. And still lose weight.

Recipes, daily menus and snack ideas are provided in the book.

Here are two recipes from The O2 Diet: - Caramelized Pears and Pecan French Toast

EXERCISEEXERCISE

The O2 Diet encourages regular exercise in order to promote weight loss, improve circulation and confidence.

CONCLUSION CONCLUSION

The O2 Diet is a novel take on a any diet that espouses eating more fresh fruits, vegetables and healthy fats. Based on the ORAC calculation, a measure of the antioxidant capacity of food, The O2 Diet by Keri Glassman features a four-day cleanse followed by a four-week diet that promises to leave you feeling lighter, healthier and more beautiful.

While The O2 Diet may not be that much different than other eat-clean diets, its simple plan and informative content may inspire those who are ready to make a real and healthy shift in their eating choices and lifestyle behaviors.

The bean soup recipe is good, definitely would need a gasx or something, but overall it is a very filling recipe. I found it in the April 19, 2010 issue of Woman's World Magazine. I am on the first day of thee diet, and find the food plans easy to follow.

The neat part of this diet is the use of a recognized scientific scale which has been and is currently used in the "health chocolate" world. In her book page 24 this dark chocolate is given a name, XoCai, and is on the wholesale market as being the highest antioxidant (ORAC) valued chocolate. The company will launch a diet program using a high protein powder based on the O 2 diet. Get a lifestyle change losing and controlling your weight. You can count ORAC value and eat a healthy dark chocolate that is tested and certified with an ORAC value, See the site www.darkchocolatefitforlife.com and get started losing weight.

This is a change in your lifestyle by changing the way you eat and what you eat by the logic of what you are ingesting. It is highly important that you consider it so you can sit down on a day when you have the time and decide how to go about doing this. Of course if your family is involved, maybe it is the time to have a family meeting to discuss it as it will take everyone taking ownership of this to work. It will work, and it will make visits to the doctor that of a annual checkup instead of for illness as it boosts your immune system through the roof. Think about it and do it for you and your loved ones. Grow old with me the best is yet to be...by Rabbi Ben Ezra takes on new meaning with this diet as a weight loss system and health for life alternative. I am a weight loss support group leader, and it does all start with you. Think about how important you are to you, to those that rely on you. And let me know if you need a pep talk. You can do it, if you want!

I did the four day cleanse and lost the water weight of 5 pounds. I have been doing the turbo soup this week and am only part way through. I used the chicken chunks rather than the soy beans. The soup is great! I am losing, feel great and have plenty of energy. I like the idea of eating all these antioxidant rich foods. I am a two time breast cancer survivor and love the idea of cleaning up all those free radicals floating around in my body. I love this plan.

I followed this diet plan in November 09- during Thanksgiving!- and it's exactly what it claims to be. Easy to follow and substitute as necessary (I'm not a big fan of eating artichokes as a snack so I would substitute another veggie high in ORAC units). I lost 10 pounds and after 1 week everyone noticed a difference in my energy, complexion and body. My stomach was very flat but more importantly, I was motivated to keep eating that way- and have. Pair this diet with moderate to intense exercise and you'll achieve your weightloss goals in no time, without feeling deprived. GOOD LUCK!!

I am definently going to try this. I have studied quite a bit about the chemistry behind foods and even did a report for school on the super foods, so I know that this the real deal. We had started eating healthy a couple of years ago but with our busy schedule and my son's high fat diet (he has CF) we slumped back into our bad habits. I really think this diet can jump start us into healthy eating again.

From all the diets out there, this diet makes so much sense to me! I saw Keri Glassman on the CBS Early Show speaking about antioxidants and had to go purchase her book. The book is filled with facts about why antioxidants help your body function and feel better and it helps to have backed up research on top of it. The recipes that I have tried so far are delicious - I would have to say my favorite is the Chili-Lime Tilapia recipe! Sooo good!!

It??s been 2 weeks since I started the O2 diet and people have benn asking me if I lost weight, fell in love with a Romeo, cut my hair? haha! How can I not love reactions like that! I think a big part of it is that fact that I??ve actually started doing something good for my health and stuck with it because it??s easy! Thanks a million Keri!

My husband and I did the 4 day cleanse. He lost 6lbs and I lost 5.4. It really changed our eating habits. We are doing the DIY plan according to the book. And we feel great. I would recommend those who would like to lose a few pounds try this diet.
