What is it?
The Sacred Heart Diet is a weight loss fad diet that is used to help treat overweight people with heart conditions. It’s also been called the Spokane Heart Diet, Miami Heart Institute Diet, and the Cleveland Clinic Diet.
It claims results for up to 10 to 17 pounds in the first week. It lasts a total of 7 days and is made up mostly of soup and vegetables. It also claims to be helpful for those suffering from diabetes or bowel problems. There are different free resources online which help explain what the diet requires. By reviewing several popular and new diets, our experts have rated the 18Shake Diet as the most effective. It offers a combination of both an appetite suppressing meal replacement and a fat burning stimulant free diet pill. Sacred Heart DietIngredients and Side Effects
You can eat as much as you like of the following:
• Soup: Should consist of 1 to 2 cans of stewed tomatoes, 3 large green onions, and 1 large can of beef broth with no added fat, a package of Lipton Soup Mix, 1 bunch of celery, 2 cans of green beans, 2 green peppers and 2 pounds of carrots.
• Drinks: Unsweetened juices, herbal tea, skim milk, water, cranberry juice, and coffee. This can be drunk as much as one likes.
The kinds of foods allowed are:
• Day One: Unlimited soup and certain fruits excluding bananas.
• Day Two: Eating as much fresh, canned, or cooked vegetables. No dry beans, peas, or corn can be eaten. Leafy greens are suggested. Dinner allows for a baked potato with butter, though no fruits are allowed.
• Day Three: Unlimited soup, fruit and veggies. One should have lost around 5 to 7 pounds.
The link cited here has a list of the top 10 ranked diet plans for weight loss.
• Day Four: Skim milk and at least 3 milks. This is meant to replace the amount of carbohydrates and potassium needed. The protein and added calcium is intended to reduce the cravings for sweets.
• Day Five: Beef and tomatoes. 10 to 20 ounces of beef and canned tomatoes. Soup must be eaten once a day and 6 tomatoes can be eaten.
• Day Six: Beef and vegetables for as much as you’d like 2 to 3 steaks with green leafy vegetables and at least one soup a day.
• Day Seven: Brown rice, unsweetened fruit juice, eat as much soup as you can, and you can add cooked vegetables to the rice.
If more than 17 pounds have been lost it’s advised to stop using the diet for two daysbefore one can resume using it again. It’s said that one should lose between 10 to 17 pounds safely. The basic idea is that this diet will significantly reduce the amount of calories you lose via introducing low calorie foods.
The reason one can eat unlimited amounts of soup is due to the extremely low calories provided, as well as the natural liquid in soup which helps to fill up the stomach.
There are also restrictions on food such as not eating:
• Bread.
• Carbonated drinks including diet soda.
• Fried foods.
• Alcohol.
It’s advised to make sure to at least drink a total of 6 to 8 glasses of water. One can add the list of allowed beverages to also make up for the amount of liquids one needs to drink. For a top 10 list of the highest rated diet plans click the link provided.
EDITOR’S TIP: Combine this diet with a proven meal replacement such as 18 Shake for better results.
Sacred Heart Diet Quality of Ingredients
There are healthy food options which are recommended, but eating only large amounts of soups can be difficult. It’s likely one will lose weight as there is very few calories provided. The issue is that this can also lead to nutritionaldeficiencies. A lot of the foods one will be eating are low in fats, which can lead to fatigue.
The claimed 10 to 17 pounds of weight loss are likely to be water weight. The reason why the diet is only available for use up to 7 days is because of the risk of issues with can result with repeat use. Diets that require only a short term use are often because they can promote side effects. This is not considered a sustainable diet; they are what are known as crash diets.
Sharron Coplin, a registered dietician for Ohio State University said:
“would not recommend any diet that exceeded a safe rate of weight loss, which is 2 to 3 pounds per week”
This rapid weight loss is not a quality of a safe and effective diet plan. The link provided here has a rate of the highest rate weight loss diets.
The Price and Quality of Sacred Heart Diet
The price depends on where one gets their vegetables and other food items. It’s likely to be an easy to afford diet, but there are health websites which mention it’s potentially unsafe.
Healthy Weight Formulas adds:
“one of the main points against it is that most weight loss is temporary, caused by fluid depletion”
“particularly low in calories, and may cause light headedness and weakness”
The risk for side effects and the extreme reduction in calories make this a potentially risky diet. It is easy to begin this diet, but overall the lack of evidence for safety makes it a poor diet. Our experts have rated the top ranking diet plans in a top 10 list found here.
Business of Sacred Heart Diet
Websites which promote this brand often will claim that it was formulated by a particular hospital. The truth is that none of the claimed hospitals said to have created this diet have taken responsibility, since it’s a potentially dangerous diet.
Most of the information on this diet is available on free websites. There is no officialguide, and certain sites offer different accounts on what should be followed. The same basic ideas are offered however, such as making sure to get the help of a physician in case of any excess weight loss.
This lack of information is likely because like other fad diets it’s not based off of real science. The top 10 list of the best weight loss diets can be seen in the link cited here.

Customer Opinions of Sacred Heart Diet
Here are some direct quotes from users of this diet:
“On day 3 and lost nothing! Actually gained 2 lbs. on day 2”
“gained A LOT of weight back”
“I am on day 7 of this diet and have not lost any weight”
“I am always hungry though, and don’t want to constantly eat this soup”
As suspected the main issue people had was that any weight loss was quickly regained. This is what is known as a crash diet, which gives fast results that do not last and is only intended for a short period of use.
The issue with diets like this is that most of the weight loss is actually water weight and not fat. This makes it impossible to rely on for real weight loss.
Another listed issue from people was that it was hard to eat the same kinds of foods. People quickly because bored of the food selection, for many it was impossible to keep eating soup even it was just for 7 days. For a list of thehighest rated diet pals for weight loss follow the link provided here.
Conclusion - Does Sacred Heart DietWork?
The Sacred Heart Diet allows for unlimited amounts of soup that’s based off of just one recipe. For the entire 7 days there are different allowed foods. The diet is considered a fad crash dietthat can result to upwards of 7 pounds in the total 7 days. One can continue using the day off and on again for results. Many who have tried it mention it’s not satisfying to keep eating the same foods allowed. There were also problems with the lack of long lasting weight loss. There are problems with sustaining weight loss efforts since most of what’s lost is water weight. Medical sites also mention that it’s lacking in nutrition and that it can be unsafe to keep using it. It can lead to nutritional deficiencies which may result in long term side effects.
Our experts have concluded the best solution for weight loss is the 18Shake Diet. It offers a nutritionally balanced meal replacement that helps with appetite suppression, as well as a diet pill made to help burn fat. Testimonials and positive reviews are available on the official website from people who have had significant results. +Been on the diet religiously for 5 days and only lost 2 pounds. I actually like the diet, but I am dissapointed that as a 300 lb man, I did not shed a lot more weight by now.

i love this diet i have never been a good ether and would always go days with out eating. which would only make me gain weight when i finally would eat. i have a problem cause when i look at food it make me sick cause i know ill gain weight . so when i found this diet it was like heaven to me i could eat all day long and not gain weight. and if your feeling hungry then you need to keep eating the soup. i would eat this soup some time 6-7 times a day yes by force cause im not a eater but its true the more soup you eat the more you will loose in 7 days i went through 3 pots of soup and big a hole crock pot full. and followed the rest like i was suppose to out of the 7 days not once did i feel hungry cause i was eating the soup every 2-3 hours and i wasnt eating that i was eating apples . hole bag of broccoli. do i like these foods no but i dont like food at all so im just trying for once in my life to eat healthy and lose weight. and at the end of 7 days i lost 20 pounds. and i feel so good. and it has showed me that i can eat and not gain weight 3 weeks later havent gained none of it back. stick to the diet and eat that soup like not other just eating it twice aday it not going to help any and if you are feeling hungry then your not eating enough.ps yes every time i looked at that soup it was a choir but if you want to loss the weight then tell your self you love it and eat it all day long for the 7 days and do not cheat cause that will cause u the head ace and only 5p lost and you will gain it right back. only did it for 7 days and know i eat the veggies fruit and chicken and im still 20 pounds down and now working on the toning part.

First day of this diet...it's 5:44pm. I've eaten about 3 servings of fruit and about 3 servings of soup. I am starved, literally..it's like my body needs meat!! Omg my stomach feels empty but I know it's not. I only feel better when I work out. I worked out for an hr and that helped with me feeling sick now I'm back to feeling that way..

I am on day six and one of the easiest days, steak for luch with mixed veg and roast beef for tea with vegetables - very nice.
posted Jan 8th, 2012 8:59 pmWe have taken it in turns daily trying to make the soup different using variety of herbs and spices and that has helped in making it taste slightly different.
Lost 7lbs this morning so another couple by tomorrow morning will be fantastic.
I have had headaches real bad though my partner has had none. Another side effect - we wee for Britain!
Banana day was the worse by far as long as I can munch on fruit or veg it makes the day easier.
am lucky enough to be doing the diet with my partner, the soup is fine as long as I can Liquidise it as do not like celery.
Question: We live in leeds and the biggest problem we have is buying the Shitake Mushrooms & Kumbo (seweed), not been able to get hold of it. Been to most supermarkets and International Shops round wakefield no luck! Is there anywhere where we can buy this locally? And does it matter if we miss these from the soup.
Question 2:
What do you have for breakfast? On the fruit/veg days we had grapefuit. but any other ideas?
Roll on End of day 7, will post on here our final weight loss.
Good luck to all those on the diet now x

+I am on day four of this diet. I have not cheated at all and I have worked out 3 out of the last 4 days. So far have lost 3 lbs, but my clothes are fitting differently and I although I haven't measured myself, I am sure I have lost inches as well. I am 27, 5' 3" and started at 143lbs and I am now 140lbs. I plan on doing this diet for two weeks because we are leaving for Mexico in 2 1/2 weeks! I am hoping to get to 135 by the time we leave. So far I have loved all the food the diet plans lays out for you. If nothing else, it has shown me how much will power I have! I love carbs and sweets... so it's been hard to avoid those. So far so good! I love love love the soup... but I can imagine after 14 days of eating it that I will be ready to gag too! Too much of anything can be a a bad thing. Good Luck to anyone looking to try it! I'll check back to let you know my total loss.

Im 21 now and tried this diet a lot when I was 16 and had a hard time getting past day 4, but I still had success with it. I go to Disney in 20 days and NEED to lose some weight before I go!! I'm going to weigh myself tomorrow morning and track my progress over the next week without cheating. The soup ALWAYS makes it so difficult for me but last time I diced my veggies which made it easier to eat and drained the stewed tomato's which made it taste soo much better, I also added a can of beans just for some protein and a different consistency and still lost weight, but I'll see how it goes this time.

+I have been looking at some of the feedback and I would like to answer some questions. Yes you need to follow the diet exactly since it is telling you what your body needs on specific days. If you buy boullion (which comes in alot of flavors) the soup will be extremely tasty. If you dont eat alot of veggies, no matter what you do you will hate it. You have a headache because your body is getting rid of the toxins. I usually get them when its the meat day. (Since i am putting the toxins back in.) It says that you will loose 10-17 lbs however I have found that everyone is different and the more obese people will loose more or people who eat a very poor diet to begin with. I am 5'3 weighed 158 and now weigh 153, however I have lost inches. This is my third time on this diet and I feel more of an appreciation for food. I also felt an abundance of energy, I felt very sluggish before starting this diet. This alone is a plus for me. I think the key to this diet to see maximum results is not cheating and excersise at least 5 out of the seven days that you are on the diet.

?Are there any other options to the Sacred Heart Diet soup? I am on my fruits and veggie day....I must say the soup makes me sick to my stomach even just to think about it. I have had a killer headache since day one as well. I lost 2 pounds the first day but gained one the second day....why is this? I am sticking to the diet the best I can. However I found that I would rather drink my broth and eat my veggies raw ( it is easier on my tummy), is this okay? Also I am not a beef eater and was wondering if I did eat the steaks could I atleast do chicken broth instead of beef broth? I am just trying to find ways to stomach the soup lol. I am 5"4 and weigh 149 lbs. I am wanting to get to 109 lbs which is 1 lb under what my healthy weight would be. I have already lost 4 lbs just by eating clean and healthy and working out like crazy! Please if anyone knows of a way around the soup that works please help! I love veggies I just prefer them raw!

?I am starting the Sacred Heart diet tomorrow, but do I have t eat the soup thats listed or can I just eat different soups?

+So today is day three of this diet. The soup makes me want to gag. I cannot find a spice that changes the taste of it or smell.
posted Nov 9th, 2011 9:39 pmI've only lost like 1 pound. I guess i will keep going. I have an event on Saturday and today is Wednesday. I started on Monday. Tomorrow is Banana day, which kind of excites me. But I'm doing for the meat!
I'm so tired and groggy and I feel like I'm always hungry and sick.
I started at 136 and am now around 134-135.
I want to be 130 at the most on Saturday. This is really hard. :(

Hi All, I am a 40 year old female, 5.9 with 17 pounds to lose. I am curvy and like my curves so my ideal weight is 155.
I decided to try this because I want to lose weight quick. I am a healthy eater in general but just have a few pounds to shed and thought why not try a quick solution...I find that it's getting harder to maintain my weight or to shed a few lbs...Here's my progress:
Day 1, felt great and weighed in at 172 pounds. Lots of energy and did lots of housework and did Kettleworx.
Day 2, harder ...still lots of housework and yard work. but thank God for the potato and butter. And my portopello mushrooms taste like prime steak...lol. Weight 169. I am motivated.
Day 3, only veggies and fruit...had a smoothy for breakfast and am happy that I can have bananas. Weight in the AM = 172. I have some energy but really no weight loss and I am back at square one. I hope tomorrow AM will be better. Although I am eating all the time I feel a bit depressed because I have not moved in weight but instead almost gained. I should not have waited to lose the weight. Oh well, it can??t hurt me at this point. ...I am going to finish...I??ll keep you posted.
