DL-Phenylalanine: An amino acid used to treat depression, ADHD, chronic pain, Parkinson’s disease and more, phenylalanine is thought to make chemical messengers in the brain, but not much is known regarding the extent of its efficacy.

Vanadium Chelate: A vibrant colored mineral used to treat diabetes, high cholesterol, anemia, heart disease and improving athletic performance. Vanadium may mimic the effects of insulin.

It’s hard for us to get behind a supplement that claims it can essentially treat depression, anxiety, bipolar, ADHD, and even autism using these ingredients.

EMPower Plus is sold on the official product website for $69.98 for a bottle containing 120 capsules, or 60 servings. The site also offers other products that may be used to complement this supplement.

It seems this product cannot be found anywhere aside from the website, though the price for a two-month supply is reasonable as compared to other brain boosting supplements.

While there are some good ingredients in the mix, it’s hard to justify purchasing this over a multivitamin, as vitamins and minerals make up the bulk of this product.

Truehope’s website features a lot of writing, which is very small and hard to read, containing a lot of controversial information and potentially misleading marketing copy.

The site relies heavily on messaging that suggests their micronutrient therapy can cure autism, ADHD and mental illnesses such as depression, bipolar disorder. The site claims that this is the “most heavily studied supplement of its kind,” but only mentions two researchers who tout micronutrient therapy as a cue for mental illness, which is not a widely accepted theory.

The website posts the following statement at the top of their home page, “Advanced Natural Medicine – Replaces Psychiatric Drugs.” That, in and of itself, is potentially damaging information. The suggestion that people with serious conditions forego traditional drugs is incredibly irresponsible.

There are many articles from online publications like Psych Central, Huffington Post, and others warning consumers about this company, which goes back at least as far as 2004.

If it’s not clear already, we do not recommend this product. There are other supplements out there targeting brain health and improved mental function in a more responsible way. EMPower Plus does contain a variety of nutrients that are useful to nearly everyone, especially those who may not be eating the most well-rounded diet. Unfortunately, we do not feel comfortable recommending this product for the uses intended on the product webpage.

First of all, it’s problematic to claim that an enhanced multivitamin can treat autism or cure severe depression or bipolar disorder. If the makers of this product were advertising EMPower Plus to users looking to fight stress or improve cognition, we would fail to see any major red flags. As is, the marketing language is misleading and irresponsible.

Additionally, the website us very poorly designed and hard to navigate. The website’s small print and many broad claims give us pause.
