What is it?

Purica Recovery is a non-prescription dietary supplement that is designed to improve overall joint health with daily consumption. Their website says that their combination of ingredients make movement easier and pain-free for people that are managing the effects of aging or dealing with recovery from past physical trauma. Their advertising further claims that their unique formula can help stabilize cell membranes and improve nutrient absorption, which in turn leads to healthier joints overall.

Flexitrinol is currently the leading joint health supplement for people dealing with inflammation, movement issues, and joint pain. It naturally reinforces the body’s defenses and helps joints recover from stress and strain. Click here to see the data about what makes Flexitrinol so effective.

Purica Recovery Ingredients and Side Effects
Nutricol Grapeseed Extract Theaflavin Resveratrol Hyaluronic Acid
MSM Glucosamine Betaine HCL Magnesium Vitamin C and E

Nutricol: A chemical developed by Purica that is the foundation of their joint health blend. Nutricol is a blend of polyphenols, EGCG, and other chemicals that works by increasing the hormone receptivity of the body’s cells, allowing them to better process and store insulin, IGH, thyroxin, and other hormones.

The theory is that this makes your body more effective at using its glucosamine as well, thus leading to improved cartilage production. There is no independent data that supports these claims and it is impossible to say what the long-term effects of daily Nutricol ingestion may be.

Purica Recovery does not choose to make any information about side effects, allergy risks, or medicinal interactions associated with Nutricol available on their website.

Grapeseed Extract: Grapes have been used for a number of different purposes for centuries and we are just beginning to understand the medicinal properties of all of its elements. It is unclear what exactly the chemical effects of grapeseed oil are, although some cultures have used the substance to help treat:

  • Poor circulation
  • High cholesterol
  • Eye diseases
  • Injury-related swelling

Grapeseed is mostly considered safe for humans, however there are potentially some side effects that can be connected to its consumption including:

  • Headache
  • Itchy scalp
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness

Theaflavin: Found in black and green tea, a chemical that may be high in antioxidants and could potentially have anti-viral or anti-fungal applications.

Theafavin has not been studied clinically and it is not known what applications it may have at this time. There is also not enough data to say whether it is safe in either the short- or long-term.

Resveratrol: A chemical derived from the skin of grapes, mulberries, peanuts and the poisonous veratrum album plant that gives Resveratrol its name. It is thought that veratrum poisoning is what killed Alexander the Great, however if prepared correctly then Resveratrol should be safe for most humans.

There is very little evidence to back up any of these uses, however some cultures have tried using Resveratrol for:

  • Acne control
  • Lung health
  • Insulin management
  • Atherosclerosis
  • Cholesterol control

Hyaluronic Acid: A chemical that is found naturally in multiple parts of the body including the eyes and the synovial fluid (the mucus-like gelatin that surrounds the joints). Hyaluronic acid helps to lubricate movement and prevent the types of grinding contact that can lead to inflammation.

Hyaluronic acid is probably safe for most humans when consumed orally, however our experts urge nursing mothers and women who are or may become pregnant to exercise caution with HA supplements.

MSM: A chemical that plays a key role in sulfur processing and muscle recovery.

MSM has recently risen to prominence in the supplement community thanks to its ability to reduce inflammation without many of the irritating side effects that accompany some other popular anti-inflammatories like turmeric or boswellia serrata.

Glucosamine: A key component in the body’s collagen manufacturing process. Collagen is important because it is the key component in the production of cartilage, synovial fluid, bones, tendons, and ligaments.

All in all, collagen makes up more than 25% of all of the bodies proteins, and the body’s ability to manufacture and repair its collagen products is central to creating healthy joints.

Glucosamine has not been liked to any serious side effects, and it is thought to be safe for most humans.

Betaline HCL: A chemical found in broccoli, spinach and beets that helps play a role in liver functionality. The early evidence from betaline testing suggests that it is effective in regulating homocystine levels, which is important for preventing the hardening of the arteries and promoting healthy circulation.

Betaline hydrochloride may also play a roll in protecting the liver from various forms of fatty liver disease an in preventing heart disease. There are some concerns that betaline consumption could increase cholesterol levels, and overweight individuals and people with high cholesterol should avoid betaline.

It is also possible that consumers taking betaline supplements could experience more mild side effects such as:

  • Nausea
  • Intestinal discomfort
  • Diarrhea
  • Acrid body odor

Magnesium: One of the body’s essential trace elements and an intrinsic part of bone growth, nerve function, muscle health, and other fundamental physical processes

Some individuals with severe magnesium deficiencies need to take supplements to ensure they have proper levels of the mineral, however most people do not need to add extra magnesium to their diet.

The daily recommended upper limit for magnesium is actually surprisingly low, and taking excessive amounts of magnesium in supplement form can have serious consequences for users’ health. Some side effects that could potentially stem from excess magnesium include:

  • Irregular heart beat
  • Low blood pressure
  • Slowed breathing
  • Coma
  • Death

Unless you have specifically been diagnosed with a magnesium deficiency by a health care professional then our experts recommend staying away from supplements that include it in their proprietary blend.

Vitamin C and E: Two of the most basic nutrients in the human body and critical to some of our most fundamental biological processes. Vitamins C and E contribute to skin, bone, and muscle health, immune functionality, and a variety of other key physical functions.

Both are safe for human consumption when taken in moderate quantities and are not connected to any serious side effects.

Purica Recovery Quality of Ingredients

There were good and bad aspects to Purica Recovery’s ingredient blend. Some of their additives are highly recommended by our experts, including glucosamine, MSM, and vitamins C and E.

Other additives, such as betaline, resveratrol, and theaflavin, are untested and it is difficult to say where or not users should be using them with this frequency or for this kind of application. These chemicals, if they are effective for joint health, mostly seem to be anti-inflammatories that reduce the symptoms of joint damage.

Lastly magnesium is necessary to the body in small quantities but can be fatal to humans in larger amounts. Our experts do not currently recommend most users take supplements that include magnesium.

The Price and Quality of Purica Recovery

Purica Recovery is sold through their website as well as through a number of independent online retailers. In general, potential consumers should expect to pay something in this range:

  • 1, 180-count bottle of Purica Recovery capsules: $42.94

This looks like a good deal until it is factored in that Purica Recovery recommends five capsules per day. This means that each bottle is only designed to last about 36 days, and as such Purica Recovery is actually slightly more expensive than average in terms of price.

Customer Opinions of Purica Recovery

There are surprisingly few customer reviews available from third-party websites. Many of those comments are positive, however there were also some critical posts as well:

“I think my arthritis pain is probably too much for this supplement to handle. I tried it for a while but I never felt any better.”

“I am seeking a refund for the two bottles of Purica Recovery that I purchased. They did nothing for me but waste my time.

The most frequent complaints were related to the product not working as well as advertised, however some were also directed at its high price and the high number of pills that users needed to take.

Conclusion – Does Purica Recovery Work?

Purica Recovery features some good ingredients, some unknown ingredients and one ingredient that our wellness experts warn against. The testing regarding its effectiveness is inconclusive, and its price is considerably higher than other supplements that have better track records.

For all of these reasons, our team cannot recommend Purica Recovery to our readers at this time. Customers are encouraged to seek out supplements that use both glucosamine and chondroitin, as well as only including other ingredients that have proven records of effectiveness and safety.

Flexitrinol is the joint health supplement that they’ve scored the highest. It uses an ingredient blend that incorporates natural collagen stimulants with proven effective anti-inflammatory agents in order to provide complete joint maintenance. Click here for more information about Flexitrinol.

One Response to Purica Recovery Review

Roger Gates says:

After a 2009 MVA, in which a car came across the highway centre line and hit my Lincoln MKX, I spent than more one year on the maximum recommended dosage of the prescription anti-inflammatory Diclofenac and then was relying on a combination of a half the maximum dosage Diclofenac and twice daily use of Osteo Joint Ease for controlling back pain.
I have been using Purica Recovery Extra Strength for 5 weeks, at the time of this comment, and no longer require the use of Diclofenac or Joint Ease to carry out my heavy lifting weight training and automotive work.
I’m Very Thankful for Purica Recovery and hope that others can benefit from this clean product, as much as I have.
