Relief Factor is a drink mix that is designed to be a daily joint health supplement. Their website recommends their products for people that live with chronic joint and muscle pain, such as those dealing with injury recovery or the effects of aging. They claim that it works as an anti-inflammatory aid that can be effective for reducing pain, swelling, and stiffness.
Our experts believe that Flexitrinol is the dietary supplement that is most effective for increasing overall joint, tissue, and bodily wellness.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: One of the most basic nutrients in the body and a key part of a number of different functions.
Omega-3 fatty acids help lubricate joints for easier movement, they’re good for mental function, blood pressure and heart health, and general bodily wellness. They’ve been used in the treatment of a number of different conditions over the years including:
ADHD
Bipolar disorder
Hypertension
Antiphospholipid syndrome
Developmental coordination disorder
Menstrual pain
IgA nephropathy
Rheumatoid arthritis
Omega-3 fatty acids are safe for most people and do not have any serious side effects associated with their consumption.
Curcumin: Another name for turmeric, the famous spice that gives curry powder its flavor. Turmeric has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries, however there is very little clinical data surrounding its applications.
Curcumin is thought to function as an anti-inflammatory agent, lessening the body’s response to TNF’s (Tumor Necrosis Factors). Some conditions that it is possible that
turmeric may help include:
High cholesterol
Osteoarthritis
Itching
Stomach ulcers
Alzheimer’s disease
Eye inflammation
Cohn’s disease
Depression
Diabetes
Stomach ulcers
Irritable bowel syndrome
Rheumatoid arthritis
Acne
Ringworm
It is important to note that the FDA does not confirm or deny any of these applications and more testing is needed before any kind of definitive statement about its medicinal powers can be made. There is equally little data about the long-term effects of curcumin supplements, as there has never been a 5- or 10-year study about their daily consumption. Some short-term side effects that are thought to possibly be connected to turmeric include:
Stomach upset
Dizziness
Nauseous feelings
Gaseous bloating
Epimedium: A plant that is known in Chinese herbology as “yin yang huo” but is more commonly referred to in Europe and North America as “horny goat weed.”
Horny goat weed is thought to be an effective circulatory system stimulant that is most frequently found in over the counter male sexual stimulants. There is not a lot of evidence about the actual chemical effects of epimedium, however it has been used by some cultures in the treatment of conditions like:
Osteoporosis
Fatigue
Memory loss
High blood pressure
Heart disease
Liver disease
Bronchitis
There is some debate about the safety of horny goat weed. One study claim that it has been shown to be safe when taken by mouth for up to two years, however there are other studies that have shown that it might have the potential to lead to more serious long-term health consequences, such as heart and liver damage.
Short term side effects that it is possible are related to epimedium ingestion include:
Dizziness
Vomiting
High blood pressure
Dry mouth
Thirst
Nosebleed
Spasms
Breathing problems
Heart arrhythmia
Resveratrol: A derivative of the veratrum album plant, also known as false helleborine. Veratrum is a poisonous plant if prepared incorrectly, and it is thought that veratrum poisoning is responsible for the death of Alexander the Great.
Resveratrol was isolated from the poisonous parts of the plant in 1939 and has since also been found in the skins of grapes, mulberries, and peanuts. There is still insufficient evidence to back up these applications, but some cultures have used it in the treatment of:
Acne
Lung disease
Diabetes
Atherosclerosis
High cholesterol
Resveratrol is safe for most individuals when consumed in normal amounts. It can potentially make certain bleeding disorders worse, and it should not be consumed by pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Relief Factor does not have a very traditional ingredient blend for a joint health supplement. They ignore most of the big-name joint health ingredients like glucosamine and chondroitin and focus instead on some lesser-used and under-studied additives.
One thing that Relief Factor does have in its favor is that it uses Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3’s have been shown to be helpful for joint lubrication and for bodily wellness in general, and are highly recommended by our experts.
Other than that, most of the ingredients in Relief Factor are highly untested, however if they are effective for joint health specifically it is only as anti-inflammatory agents. Inflammation control is a key part of joint health, and most reliable mixes will contain something to block TNF, cytokines, or other chemicals that can cause stiffness, swelling, tenderness and pain.
The problem with this approach is that inflammation is a symptom of joint damage, not the cause. Glucosamine and chondroitin are popular because of their ability to stimulate collagen growth, which leads to healthier cartilage, synovial fluid, and bones. Healthier connective tissues don’t get inflamed in the first place, which is far more effective for long-term joint health and pain control.
Oddly, Relief Factor does not display their full ingredients list on their website. Their product is also not available through any other independent retailers, so there are no published versions of their full nutritional information anywhere online.
This is frustrating for a number of reasons. First, our nutritional experts do not recommend consuming any product that you don’t know the ingredients of, especially daily supplements. Allergy and medicinal interactions, expensive filler ingredients, and drugs that can have long term consequences may be included in the pills without being mentioned in the advertising.
Beyond that primary concern, it also makes comparing products difficult. Ideally a consumer knows both the ingredients and their exact dosage amounts so that hey can see if they are more effective or a better value versus the other brands on the market.
Relief Factor also makes it strangely difficult to see the pricing structure of their products, which is highly nontraditional in nature.
As mentioned, Relief Factor is not available through any independent retailers and is instead only for sale through their own website. Not only does this cut down on independent reviews, but there is no way to purchase their product without joining their subscription program.
The price advertised in bold is $19.95, however that is only for the first month’s supply of packets. After that, the consumer is locked in to a monthly payment of $49.95, which is far above average market price even for the highest quality joint health supplements.
There are a number of complaints online from consumers who felt mislead by this pricing structure, and still more from customers that had trouble getting out of the subscription plan without a number of excess charges being applied to their credit cards.
Relief Factor is a product of Promedev, Inc. They list their contact information as:
Phone Number: (800) 500-8384
Address: 11410 NE 122nd Way Ste 102
Kirkland, WA 98034
Email: Relief Factor does not have a public email address, however they do have a chat function on their website that ca be used for electronic communication.
As mentioned above, there are very few independent, third party reviews available for Relief Factor. This is due largely to the fact that they control the whole supply and don’t allow customer feedback on their website. Once you look a little further, there are quite a few complaints that can be found on the various supplement forums and review sites. Many of the responses were similar to these:
“This is a total scam – not only are their products bogus, but they totally charge you a bunch of hidden fees.”
“This isn’t a supplements company, it’s a bunch of con artists. They hook people in with ads that sound good, send them worthless products, and then charge them extra to try to get out of the deals they signed.”
“I made a huge mistake signing up for this. Their ads said twenty dollars to try it out, but in the end I’d paid nearly two hundred dollars and my knees still feel terrible.”
There were no positive reviews of Relief Factor outside of their own website.
If Relief Factor is effective at all, it is a mild anti-inflammatory agent, however there is not enough data for our team of nutritional experts to claim that with any certainty, and additionally it does not utilize any additives that are effective for improving core-level joint health.
Not only does Relief Factor not have the ingredients or the clinical evidence that would suggest it can be a successful joint health product, all of the information from customers that is available online seems to indicate that Promedev is not a trustworthy company.
Their lack of a complete ingredients list, deceptive pricing structure, and frequent complaints of excessive or unauthorized charges leads our experts to encourage consumers to stay away from Relief Factor and all of Promedev’s other products.
After taking 10 doses over 5 days I was feeling a marked reduction in pain. But my average blood pressure systolic and diastolic had gone up 11points (mmHg). Anyone taking this product should monitor their blood pressure.
I ordered relief Factor online one week later my account was entirely hacked checking and savings account 7 weeks for the bank to correct the problem the only thing I ever ordered online was relief Factor 10 days later relief Factor starter kit showed up already 2 months expired…. All set
Relief Factor deceptive marketing practices. The largest of which is a $19.95 + $6.95 S&H come on price for 3 weeks supply, only find out that continuing maintenance dose is over $80/month. Total rip-off!
The Relief Factor I ordered is a pill product and not a liquid. You compare it to joint pain products but the ad suggest it is for overall pain and/or inflammation. The regular products for inflammation seem to be the standard format. I have just recently received the product so can’t give a review on the effectiveness as yet. However, I am hoping an alternative or new combination of supplements will make the difference. Agree that the auto-ship is a bit excessive in cost, but the few reviews that have actually tried the product according to recommendations seem to have gotten relief. Thanks
I took the trial package of Relief Factor for lower back pain (bulging discs and cyst.) It did indeed lessen the pain. While the trial pack is reasonably priced, the normal pricing is very pricey. Prior to the end of the 3 week trial pack I ordered separate supplements for all of the active ingredients which cost less than $60 for a 120 day supply, almost a quarter of the price that would be charged by Relief Factor. Since the dosage was also slightly higher, I experienced either the same or actual more pain relief. The active ingredients are readily available as supplements.
I thought I would get some as I’m in consent pain. I wanted to order the trile pack for $19.95 I couldn’t get it without ordering the next month at $75 I am disabled and can not afford that amount.
after taking Relief Factor for 4 weeks, I went to the dentist. They took my BP and it was 190/110. A hypertension crisis. Went to my MD. and got a different blood pressure med. other than I was taking. Stopped taking RF 2 days ago and will see where my BP goes. RF worked for my back pain, but will stop if BP drops.
