Clinique Pep Start Eye Cream Ingredients and Side Effects

Clinique doesn’t post an official ingredient label on the website, but this product is fairly well-known and a list of active ingredients is readily available on the web. Below, we’ve listed the key components of this formula—as well as what users can expect to get with use.

Squalane Peptides Dimethecone
Mica & Titanium Dioxide Antioxidants

Peptides: Peptides are made from amino acids and help make up the very structure of our skin. When added to skin care products, peptides work to firm skin, improve texture and reduce and prevent sagging and wrinkles.

Squalane: Squalane is a substance found in both olives and shark livers and is used for its ability to provide moisture to the skin.

Squalane is especially effective due to its ability to penetrate deep into the skin, providing greater hydration than you’d get with an oil.

Mica & Titanium Dioxide: Minerals used for their ability to reflect light away from the eyes, these ingredients are found in a number of products designed to cover dark circles or brighten the skin.

Dimethecone: A type of silicone found in a number of hair and skincare products, dimethecone is used to help products glide smoothly across the skin.

Antioxidants: Antioxidants are found in a number of foods and vitamins, and work to reverse and prevent the effects of stress, environmental and physical aggressors that lead to the visible signs of aging.

Clinique Pep Start Eye Cream Quality of Ingredients

Clinique Pep Start Eye Cream isn’t really intended to be used as an anti-aging product. Its primary purpose is to make users look more awake—in a matter of seconds.

This cream contains a solid lineup of ingredients. There are several parts to this formula that provide clear benefits—peptides and antioxidants, especially. These ingredients work to repair skin cells that are damaged or dried out.

Squalane, also seems to be gaining some popularity for its use as a moisturizing agent. It’s comedogenic, so it won’t clog pores and it’s not irritating for people with sensitive skin.

Clinique Pep Start Eye Cream is designed for a specific purpose—to brighten up eyes and to make users look more awake. While it has some antiaging components present, it’s not really designed for that use.

Additionally, there aren’t a ton of ingredients present that would lead one to believe that this product is effective for brightening eyes and eliminating dark circles. It does contain some mica and titanium dioxide, but in small amounts.

This product contains glycerin, which may have a drying effect on some users. Those who have especially dry skin may want to forego this cream in favor of a more traditional hydrating product.

Overall, there are many people who like this product, but it’s not the right thing for the person who wants to eliminate deep wrinkles or is in need of some serious hydration.

EDITOR’S TIP: Combine this product with a proven eye cream such as Kremovage for better results.

The Price and Quality of Clinique Pep Start Eye Cream

Clinique Pep Start Eye Cream is sold through all the typical beauty platforms. Ulta and Sephora carry this product, as do department stores like Macy’s or Nordstrom.

The Clinique website offers this product at $26.50 for a tube containing 15 mL. Sephora generally offers brands at their list price—meaning users are unlikely to find a discount if they shop there or in a department store.

Amazon offers this product at a slightly discounted rate–$22.50 per tube. There are several people currently selling Clinique products on Amazon and purchases should be made with caution.

It’s worth pointing out that while Clinique doesn’t offer many discounts, they often provide free samples to consumers who buy a certain amount–$25 or $40.

This product isn’t outside of the realm of affordability—but it’s not necessarily an antiaging miracle. Meaning, if you want potent wrinkle-busting action or powerful hydration you’re better off with a different formula.

Clinique is a popular cosmetics brand available through multiple channels both online and in person.

This skincare line is made with the intention of providing makeup and various creams to people with sensitive skin.

The website features detailed reviews from consumers who have shared information about their skin—complexion, age, skin type, etc.—all of which are helpful for new customers looking for some guidance.

The comments appear to be honest, there are some bad reviews featured—a good sign as far as transparency is concerned.

Clinique has a good reputation and a strong following of long term consumers who love their offerings, but it seems that Clinique Pep Start Eye Cream isn’t the best example of their prime offerings.

Customer Opinions of Clinique Pep Start Eye Cream

Clinique Pep Start Eye Cream has mixed reviews from past consumers. Many people mentioned that the claims seemed a little over blown, but that it was a decent moisturizer—lightweight and good for sensitive skin.

But on average, this product received good reviews. Here’s a look at some of the comments:

“Not gonna lie, I was a little worried about switching eye creams. Got a sample and gave it a try. It’s really great! Not greasy, lightweight and perfect for the summer. Brightens and provides a bit of moisture.”

“Felt good to put on, but didn’t really notice a huge difference. I’m in my 50s and don’t think it’s strong enough for my wrinkles. Love Clinique’s yellow moisturizer though. I think this one is a rare miss.”

“I definitely like it, but not in love. Really like the cooling tingle it provides and the fact that it works on puffy eyes. Dark circles, not so much. You’ll still need to get a full night’s sleep.”

“Clinique really oversells this guy. I mean, it’s nice and all—it moisturizes, but it doesn’t brighten much or eliminate dark circles. Probably won’t buy this again.”

Results were consistent across age groups. People liked that this product was not greasy, lightweight and didn’t irritate skin, but seemed disappointing in its ability to brighten and eliminate dark circles. It may have minimal effects—but some users were perhaps under the impression they’d see more obvious results.

Based on our look at the product and the reviews people posted, it seems this may be a good tool for those users looking for a lightweight eye cream that offers some protection (i.e. in the form of antioxidants).

Conclusion – Does Clinique Pep Start Eye Cream Work?

Clinique Pep Start Eye Cream has received decent reviews in spite of the fact that there were many reports that claims made by Clinique were a bit exaggerated.

Clinique Pep Start Eye Cream seems like a good example of a basic cream with some solid ingredients. Unfortunately, the company that makes this product has failed to go into greater depth in regards to what’s actually inside this formula (no label listed on the site). It’s fairly easy to find a list of the active ingredients—but we don’t know where the antioxidants or peptides are sourced from.

We’d suggest, instead, considering your needs before jumping the gun and buying an eye cream. This one seems like it might be a good preventative formula, but it’s not going to take the place of a good night’s rest.

Received a sample and applied yesterday. My eyes began to itch and the skin around began to turn red and puff up. This morning I had to ice my eyes and will not be going out in public. I look like a puff mama. In the trash it goes!
