Olay Regenerist Micro-sculpting Cream Ingredients and Side Effects

Key ingredients in Olay Regenerist Micro-sculpting Cream:

Isohexadecane Niacinamide Isopropyl Isostearate Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate
Nylon-12 Tocopheryl Acetate Sodium Hyaluronate Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4
Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract Allantoin Benzyl Alcohol
Peucedanum Graveolens Extract Capric Triglyceride Methylparaben Titanium Dioxide

Isohexadecane: Derived from petroleum, this hydrocarbon is used in skin care primarily as an emollient, skin conditioner, and solvent.  It is generally considered safe but can cause irritation and contact dermatitis in some sensitive individuals.  Petroleum products are also known to clog pores and exacerbate acne symptoms.

Niacinamide: Also known as Vitamin B3, it is used in skin care for its natural anti-inflammatory properties.  It can help reduce enlarged pores, balance uneven skin tone, minimize fine lines and wrinkles, as well as protect from free radicals.

Isopropyl Isostearate: This ingredient is used in skin care products as an emollient, skin conditioner, and humectant.  It helps lock in moisture and gives skin a smooth feel and appearance.

Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate: The aluminum salt created by the reaction of octenylsuinic anhydride with starch, this ingredient is used in skin care products as an anti-caking agent.  Though it has been deemed safe for use in cosmetics, aluminum is a known toxin.

Nylon-12: A synthetic polymer used in skin care to enhance texture and opacity.  It is often used to create a smooth, matte finish.

Tocopheryl Acetate: This highly potent form of Vitamin E helps protect against free radicals.  It also helps replenish skin lipids, resulting in improved firmness.

Sodium Hyaluronate: The salt form of Hyaluronic Acid, which is a natural glycosaminoglycan with exceptional skin moisturizing and healing abilities.  It helps fill the spaces between collagen and elastin, replacing lost moisture and hydrating the skin.

Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4: Also known as Matrixyl, this anti-aging peptide has been proven to stimulate collagen production and promote skin healing.  The results are said to be more long term than many other anti-aging ingredients.

Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract: Commonly known as Green Tea, it is one of the most powerful natural antioxidants available.  The polyphenols contained in green tea neutralize free radicals, reduce inflammation, and remove impurities, helping to slow the aging process.

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract: Aloe vera has been long known for its nutrient-rich source of hydration.  It soothes skin and contains the potent antioxidant power of Vitamins A, C, and E to help protect skin from damage.

Allantoin: This by-product of uric acid is used in skincare products for its natural soothing and conditioning properties.  It is found in the human body, but it also extracted from plants or produced synthetically.

Benzyl Alcohol: This naturally occurring alcohol can also be synthesized, and it is used in skin care as a solvent, preservative, and fragrance.  It is approved in very small amounts but can be highly toxic and sensitizing in high concentrations.

Peucedanum Graveolens Extract: Commonly known as dill, this herbal extract is used in skin care for its natural fragrance.  It can also act as a mild muscle relaxer, which can help reduce facial tension.

Capric Triglyceride: A derivative of coconut oil and glycerin, this triester is used as an emollient and protective agent.

Methylparaben: This ingredient is used in skin care products as a preservative and antifungal agent.  It has the ability to mimic estrogen and can cause hormonal imbalances and endocrine disruption.  Though it is considered safe in very small amounts on healthy, unbroken skin, users should still take caution when using products containing this or any type of paraben.

Titanium Dioxide: An inorganic compound commonly used in skin care products as a sunscreen agent that absorbs harmful ultraviolet light.  It is considered safe for topical use, but inhalation is a toxin concern.

Olay Regenerist Micro-sculpting Cream Quality of Ingredients

Olay Regenerist Micro-sculpting Cream lists all its ingredients on their website, which is helpful for those with sensitive skin or allergies, and those who simply take an interest in the products they apply to their skin.  All the active ingredients are proven for their ability to protect the skin from photodamage, or damage caused by the sun, which is the biggest contributor to premature aging.

The inactive ingredients are mainly silicone-based and serve as emollients, humectants, and texture enhancers.  While most are harmless, there is a concern that synthetic humectants moisturize only the surface of the skin.  They don’t attract moisture like natural humectants do, so they are unable to hydrate to the deeper layers.  It will moisturize instantly, but over time it can lead to drier skin.

There is also the concern about the ability of Methylparaben to mimic hormones and cause skin allergies, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  There are several other known irritants and toxins in the formula that consumers should research before purchasing.

Olay Regenerist Micro-sculpting Cream claims it is ideal for all skin types, but not all skin types react the same way to certain ingredients.  Before using this or any skin care product, one should always check with a specialist to discuss the possible risks associated with your skin care regimen.

The Price and Quality of Olay Regenerist Micro-sculpting Cream

Olay Regenerist Micro-sculpting Cream is competitively priced at $25.99 for a 1.7-ounce jar if purchased from the website, though it can be found as low as $14.99 from other retailers and third party websites.  This is a fairly good value compared to many comparable products, assuming the user achieves desired results.

There is, however, only limited information on the formula and how it works, and despite the claim Olay runs 17 rigorous clinical studies every year, none of the results are available to consumers.  The information provided about the science behind the formula is very general and does not shed much light on how the ingredients work together to reverse the visible signs of aging.

The formula contains several powerful antioxidants and sunscreen ingredients to prevent premature aging caused by UV damage, and a fair amount of silicone to smooth the skin, but it doesn’t have many proven age-reversing ingredients that might have enhanced the protection.

If Olay Regenerist Micro-sculpting Cream is within your skin care budget and sounds like something you would like to try, be sure to check with a specialist, as some of the ingredients are known irritants and allergens for some skin types.

One way the Olay brand sets itself apart from other less reputable skin care companies is their attractive and easy-to-navigate website.  It provides easily understood information about the ingredients and how they function, although more details regarding the science behind the formula and clinical trials would be appreciated.

Unlike many other online skin care companies, they do not require enrollment into any confusing replenishment services or free trials to purchase their products.

Customer Opinions of Olay Regenerist Micro-sculpting Cream

The customer reviews of Olay Regenerist Micro-sculpting Cream are mostly positive.  Olay is a well-known and trusted brand and has a large following of pleased customers.

Not all products perform the same for all skin, so until you try it for yourself, you won’t know how it works for your individual skin type.  Fortunately, there are online reviews available, allowing consumers to make informed decisions.

“I’ve used Olay for years, since it was Oil of Olay.  I love the Regenerist line because it works on my fine lines and wrinkles, and it’s so affordable.”

“I am an Olay girl for life!  More expensive products may provide more effective anti-aging results, but this cream is great and priced perfectly for my budget, like all their products.”

The efficacy of any skin care product depends on individual skin type, allergies, proper application, and many other contributing factors. Please keep this in mind when researching skin care products based on customer reviews and opinions.

Tried Olay regenerist, fragrance free. After one application my face was swollen, itchy, very very red and felt like it was on fire. Chemical burn! Don’t touch this stuff. Will not go neat Olay products again. Photos can be supplied.
