Progessence Plus Serum Ingredients and Side Effects

Made by a company that specializes in essential oils, Progessence Plus Serum contains a number of essential oils, plus wild yam extract—which work together to make a natural progesterone serum designed to help users regulate hormone levels. Here are the active ingredients in the formulation:

Wild Yam Extract Clove Bud Oil Peppermint Oil
Frankincense Oil Copaiba Balm Bergamot Oil

Wild Yam Extract: Used in many creams and supplements, wild yam is often used as an alternative to hormone replacement treatments, wild yam contains a substance known as diosgenin, which may be made into hormones like DHEA or estrogen.

Wild yam is often used in progesterone creams or menopause supplements as it may even out the body’s hormone levels, relieving mood swings, tiredness, hot flashes and night sweats common during menopause.

Peppermint Oil: Known primarily for its refreshingly cooling taste and smell and its antimicrobial properties, peppermint oil may help with digestive issues, soothe tight muscles and clear the respiratory tract. It may also keep bugs at bay when used topically.

Clove Bud Oil: Clove bud oil has antiseptic and antifungal properties and may be used to speed recovery in small cuts, wounds or burns when applied directly to the skin.

Bergamot Oil: An essential oil, bergamot oil may also be added to foods for both flavor and for health benefits. This ingredient is believed to help with mood or mild depression and may help relieve joint pain with use.

Copaiba Balm: An ingredient that may have the ability to kill germs, copaiba balm is used in a number of soaps, lotions and scents.

This ingredient may be unsafe when used as a supplement according to Web MD, though it’s unclear whether it’s safe when applied topically.

  • Side effects may include tremors, irritated skin or rash, vomiting, diarrhea, insomnia and groin pain.

Frankincense Oil: Frankincense is thought to promote feelings of calmness and wellbeing when inhaled or applied to the skin. When taken orally, frankincense may also help improve cellular function.

Progessence Plus Serum Quality of Ingredients

Progessence Plus Serum is made from wild yam, essential oils and more. Based on their blog post describing the use of this product for menopause, the makers of this product claim it is meant to be used as an alternative to other wild yam creams. Yet, the product page mentions the skin care benefits it has to offer with little reference to its hormone-balancing potential.

The website also claims that this product uses essential oils to increase the absorption of the wild yam extract. We’ve seen some evidence that peppermint may increase the uptake of antioxidants when ingested, but there’s no scientific data listed on the site demonstrating this as fact.

Likely, the makers of this product are using this product as a means to increase the price on a blend of essential oils.

The Price and Quality of Progessence Plus Serum

Progessence Plus Serum is out of stock on the official website, thought the list price $49.34. It looks like they also sell this product wholesale, but we’re not sure where else this is sold, aside from Amazon.

The Amazon listing shows the product at $43.45, though apparently there is only one unit of Progessence Plus Serum left in stock.

The retail price on this item seems rather high. It’s nearly $50 for a small bottle of essential oils, containing only one active ingredient, wild yam. The other ingredients are peppermint and bergamot essential oils, as well as vitamin E — none of which retail for more than $10 per unit.

Business of Progessence Plus Serum

Progessence Plus Serum is made by an essential oils company known as Young Living. As per their website, their contact information can be found below:

Phone: 800-371-3515

Address: Thanksgiving Point Business Park
3125 Executive Parkway
Lehi, UT 84043

The Young Living website looks nice, and is easy to navigate. The homepage features a number of upcoming events and various products, most of which are traditional essential oils you might put in a diffuser at home.

Young Living also has a blog that discusses health, wellness and lifestyle and they sell a number of supplements and topical treatments that use essential oils in the blend.

Unfortunately, Progessence Plus Serum is currently out of stock and doesn’t appear to be sold elsewhere. There is an Amazon listing, but they’ve only got one unit left. The site does not mention if this will be back in stock any time soon, or if it has been discontinued.

In looking at the Progessence Plus Serum product page, it seems that the suggested use for this product is geared more toward women who are looking to prevent the visible signs of aging, though their related blog post mentions the benefits this product has for menopausal women.

The conflicting information, as well as the fact that this company primarily specializes in essential oils makes it a bit confusing from a consumer perspective. We don’t know if users can expect an alternative to other progesterone creams or if this is primarily used for its pleasant scent and potential skin care benefits.

Customer Opinions of Progessence Plus Serum

There aren’t too many reviews for Progessence Plus Serum. The website features some comments, as does the product’s Amazon listing. Here’s a look at what we found posted on the web:

“Sadly, this product did not work for me. I gave this a try for several weeks and didn’t find any relief.”

“Felt like this product did help me sleep better, but failed to do anything for my hot flashes. I’d keep using this, but the price keeps rising. Not worth it.”

“Luckily I used this under the guidance of a naturopath. My cycle was delayed and those using this on their own may find that they have similar issues.”

“I don’t know if this did the trick, but after trying to conceive for over a year, I finally got pregnant. Not sure there’s a definite correlation, but it must have done something.”

Progessence Plus Serum doesn’t have enough of a track record for us to know whether or not it’s a good product, or if it stacks up against competing progesterone creams.

Conclusion – Does Progessence Plus Serum Work?

After looking at Progessence Plus Serum a bit more closely, we believe that there are better ways to address menopause symptoms.

We liked the natural approach to providing progesterone to users in a serum that likely smells quite nice—something users often claim is missing in other topical products. But, we’re not sure this product is clear on what its intended use is.

We also don’t really know if it works. We found some comments about this product, and most users mentioned it hadn’t started working and were asking further questions. Additionally, we don’t have much information regarding of whether this product has successfully helped users deal with their menopausal symptoms, or even it if worked to visibly improve aging skin.

Another concern is, we don’t know if this product is coming back in stock. It could be temporarily unavailable, but there’s no message to shoppers letting them know if it will be back or if it has been discontinued.

There are a lot of small issues with Progessence Plus Serum that lead us to believe that those who truly need a treatment for hot flashes and night sweats may be better off trying something that has undergone clinical testing and has several positive reviews posted online.

Femmetrinol is the daily supplement our experts recommend for treating the hot flashes, changing moods, night sweats and other symptoms that emerge during menopause. Users can expect to get relief fast with a blend of herbs like wild yam, black cohosh and more with no negative effects.

Femmetrinol is safely made according to strict quality testing and undergoes regular third-party testing, so customers can rest assured they are getting the best possible product. Learn more about the botanicals used to make Femmetrinol by clicking this link.

The last time I checked Young Living, they had Progessence in stock and gave no indication that they were running low or that there might be any problem with obtaining it.

Young living is sold through independent reps. You should do research on things before you bash them. Essential oils are extremely helpful, you can promote products without trying to put others down. It doesn’t make your product look any better. SMH

Val says:

100% agreeing with you on this.

Anonymous says:

Exactly! Thanks for setting the record straight because I’ve been using YL Progressences Plus for about a year and I no longer have hot flashes.

Iryna says:

Progressence plus worked for me very well, I used it for more than 3 months(one bottle), and it reduced my mood swings and period days went from 7 to 3. Who wouldn’t like that?
Maybe it depends on individual but I am more pleased with results, and finally it’s back in stock.

Nicole S says:

This worked the first time I used it… I went from having several hot flashes a day to feeling cold at times. I’m a nurse and I work long hours, I used it in the morning and it worked my entire shift, not just once but every time I use it. I have let my coworkers use it at times and they have the same results. I don’t use it everyday but just as needed for those really bad days.

Mel says:

I definantly wouldn’t be purchasing this from Amazon!!! Essential pulls should be purchased from a reputable source. Young Living is sold by individual reps or purchased directly off their website. Amazon oils coukd be fake or tampered with! But back to pro plus…stuff is awesome and has worked amazing for many ppl I know without using any synthetic products or chemicals….100% natural is the safest way to go!!

Vonda Gaunce says:

You can not buy this off Amazon… if it’s on amazon someone bought it and is resealing and there is no proof that it’s not been altered! you can ONLY buy it from a Young Living Distributor! You have to use this for a 1-3 months before you will see any change.. usually closer to the 3 month mark…. It is back in stock. Young Living oils are 100 % pure therapeutic grad essential oils! check out their seed to seal guarantee at seedtoseal.com .

Kathy says:

There are a ton of young living oils and products for sale on amazon; Not sure if it’s the same quality. I thought they could only be ordered from a distributer also. The prices are much higher on amazon

Trish says:

Have been on this for 5 years. Have thyroid problem fibromyalgia and menopause. And it works awesome. With in 3 days my fibromyalgia pain diminished to a point I could walk without pain. And now I live an almost pain free life. Had fibromyalgia for over 15 years. Have next to none hot flashes and nite sweats!!!

AR Graham says:

I can’t live without progessence plus! Anyone studying hormones would know it take up to a year for your hormone cells to recycle. If you don’t give the product that long you won’t know if it’s working.

Melissa says:

Progessence Plus has been a life changer for me! I had issues with mood swings during the week before my cycle and could not sleep either. I started using Progessence Plus about 18 months ago and still use it today. It’s a 15ml bottle. I use two drops on my forearms everyday. That’s it. No more weeping or raging for me, and I sleep better too! I, and my husband, noticed results in the first month! The bottle lasts approximately 4 months using two drops a day, it would last 2 months doing four drops. When thinking essential oils, we work in drops not teaspoons. This product has helped me function better and it is worth the 38.50 wholesale cost I pay. My family will agree. I would also suggest Dragon Time essential oil blend for during the period. I rub a drop on the ankles every four hours and I find I don’t have the irritability or cramps I would normally have. Using both these products my period has gone from 7 yucky days to 4 manageable days. Of course this is my opinion and what works for me may not work for everyone. But if you have issues it is worth a try.

Sharon says:

I didn’t notice any change the first 2 months, but as time has passed my periods have become shorter and lighter! I’m much happier with my cycle now. I definitely recommend this product (and for women to try it for 6 months before saying it doesn’t work).

Savedsoulhome says:

This serum is absolutely amazing. It helped my body so much and my face as I was dealing with extreme hormone imbalances. I strongly recommend it and couldn’t be more glad that it’s part of my daily wellness support life.

Lacy says:

I swear by this oil. I have only been able to get pregnant and hold a pregnancy while using progessence plus… coincidence, maybe? But I noticed a huge difference. It regulated my very irregular cycles, and I carried 2 babies to full term even though I’m extremely high risk.

Allison Needham says:

Lacy! Did you use it your whole pregnancy? Did you also take progesterone supplements with it? My doctor thinks I MC. because of low progesterone and I am not supposed to take progesterone supplements until I get pregnant again! I want to start using this until I get pregnant then use the doctors supplements! Not sure if I should use it now to help get pregnant and once I am if I should continue it with what the doc gives me!

Anonymous says:

I have been using Progessence Plus for 6 weeks now, no side effects . I’m 45 and my periods have either not come or are cut back from 7-9 days to 4

It’s truly amazing !
I highly suggest using this products on a daily. It’s changed my life!

Tamara Taylor says:

I’ve used progessence plus for 7 months and it has helped me tremendously.

Anonymous says:

Progessence plus serum is working for me.!! I have been taking for 2 weeks and my hot flashes and nights are completely gone!

Anonymous says:

Young Living is BS. Their cusomer service couldn’t give me a straight answer.

TLW says:

I do use essential oils and they have made a HUGE difference in my family’s life. I do think more research should be done on oils. I feel everyone should research before using. I think they should be used with caution and one should introduce oneself to oils slowly. I have not used Progessence Plus yet. I do use Young Living oils. But here is what your article got wrong. YL oils should only be purchased directly from YL or a distributor or by having a friend who already orders oils add to their order – which is what I do at my wholesale cost. YL oils should be purchased off Amazon – there is no guarantee you are actually getting a YL oil. There are wholesale members who order oils at the wholesale price. YL is the ONLY company that either owns or has partnerships with farms for the plants that comprise the oils. There are extremely strict guidelines, restrictions, standards that must be met. The only undergo testing over 30 times. YL is the ONLY company that has that kind of oversight and quality control. From the moment a seed goes into the ground to when the oil goes in a bottle, each step and ingredient has been through rigorous inspection and testing. At the very least, your review article does need to be updated to state that people should not be ordering from Amazon and only going thru YL or a YL distributor.

Jenni B says:

I used Progessence Plus for over a year. No one warned me of the dangers of using progesterone without having your hormone levels checked by a doctor. Sadly, I learned this the hard way. About 6 months after starting the PP, I started noticing that my hair was falling out like crazy. I also developed severe, crippling depression. It took me about 6 months to connect the dots and realize that these things started after I began using PP regularly. I’ve now had two doctors confirm to me that too much progesterone in the system causes hair loss and depression. Surprise, surprise: about a week after I stopped the PP, the depression lifted and hasn’t returned. Only time will tell if I ever get my hair back. Thanks for the warning, Young Living. Thanks for blindly recommending this for all females over the age of 12. Thanks for hiding behind the blanket claim that you aren’t regulated by the FDA, nor are your products intended to treat, cure, or prevent any disease. You may be legally protected, but shame on you for not being more concerned about the well-being of your customers.

Anonymous says:

Jenni, this response is so helpful. I came to this site to try to connect some dots about my strange period, hair loss and mood swings since taking PP. Thank you for sharing your experience!

says this causes cancer?so do I really want to be using this?
